Sarah & Henry
The classic romance of a country wedding never fails to send my love of weddings sky high. From the beautiful stories the incredible landscape backdrops and the sweet country halls turned into the most unique and fun celebration spaces. The romantic country wedding of Sarah and Henry comes to us from the groom’s sister – Photography by Sarah J.
Sarah tells the tale of how they came to be. “Henry was working at our local sports store and I had to go and try on netball uniforms we had ordered. He was there in the back room sitting at a table eating his lunch when I walked in, and that’s the first time we met. We then just kept running into each other everywhere! ”
The groom and groomsmen all wore check shirts with pants and braces from Roger David.
Sarah chose a gown by Anna Campbell, explaining, “I chose to wear the Isobelle dress by Anna Campbell. I was obsessed with Anna Campbell when I first discovered her. The dresses she makes are amazing and exactly the style I wanted. I couldn’t wait to make an appointment to try them on. I bought mine from the Anna Campbell store on Sydney Road, Brunswick and the ladies there were absolute gems.”
Sarah, her bridesmaids and the couple’s daughters walked down the aisle to Jason Walker – Kiss Me. Sarah tells, “Walking up the aisle I couldn’t help but cry. It was just so surreal that the moment had finally come and I was so overwhelmed with happiness.”
Sarah and Henry married at Demosa Hall (The Pioneer Settlement) in Swan Hill. They tell, “We wanted an outside wedding originally but it poured rain all week leading up to our wedding so we resorted to the old Demosa Hall at the Pioneer Settlement. It’s a historic, restored little township from our 1850s with everything vintage which matched our theme.”
Hayden Price officiated the ceremony, the bride and groom remembering, “We just wanted to embrace our loved ones and have it all about us and not so much about the fancy things. Our reading was “Oh the places you’ll go” by Dr. Seuss.”
“We used Henry’s Grandpa Jack’s restored vintage A-Model Ford as our wedding car.”
Farmyard Flowers, Sea Lake created the wheat filled bouquets, Sarah and Henry remarking, “Our florist, Jenny from Farmyard Flowers in Sea Lake, Victoria. Jenny was such a great lady to deal with. I took ideas to her and she made them better than I had even thought of. We took our wheat to her and she put it through our bouquets, pins and hairpieces. She’s very creative and does such an amazing job. An absolute pleasure to work with. We both loved getting out our creative flare and coming up with unique ideas.”
Of their photographer, Sarah and Henry tell, “Our awesome photographer just happened to be Henry’s sister Sarah, of Photography by Sarah J. She helped us with a great deal of our wedding not just the photography sides of things. If we had any questions we’d just give her a call and she’d always have the answer for us. Sarah found some great locations and was the best to work with. She helped us put our ideas into action and we were definitely blown away with the end results! Sarah was the best asset we had and we couldn’t have done any of it without her.”
Another country hall – Nyah Memorial Hall set the scene for the reception, the newlyweds telling, “Henry made our bar, the lemonade stand, the string festoon lights, the photo booth and all the tree slabs for the table centers. Sarah made all the flags, signs, the cake, gathered books and all the little decor items. We had a working bee with family to make our invitations and favors. We both gathered wheat from the farm at harvest for the bouquets, pins and decor.”
Guests received homemade jars of hot chocolate mix as wedding favors.
The bride made the wedding cake using Henry’s grandmother’s sponge cake recipe. “We wanted most of it to be made or done by us so everyone knew the wedding was who we were. I (Sarah) got a few baking lessons with Henry’s Grandma Chriss on how to bake her secret sponge cake recipe for our wedding cake.”
Of their first dance, the newlyweds tell, “We didn’t have any dance lessons we kind of “winged” it on the day! We danced to Matt Corby- Resolution.”
Congratulations Sarah and Henry! Thank you for sharing the stories of your day with us! Thank you to Photography by Sarah J for sharing such a personal wedding with us!
