It’s the moment you’ve been dreaming of since you were a little girl playing dress ups in your mother’s pearls. It’s the day where you put on a beautiful dress, walk down the aisle and say ‘I do’ to the one you love. Every little detail you choose – from the flowers and the crockery to the invitations – represents who you are; it’s the day of your dreams!

As magical as that all sounds, what if you, the bride to be, has never thought about planning an event before? What if you know your style but you just don’t know where to start or who to talk to about how to create that look to suit your budget? Not to worry, we’ve got you covered with the best of our styling tips for your big day!

Theme

Choosing a theme is the first step towards determining your wedding style. It will make choosing your locations simplified and will keep you on track for all the details that follow. When thinking about the theme and style you want for your wedding, it is important to think about a few key elements:

  • How many guests (roughly) do you want?
  • Do you want to use a stylist or style it yourself?
  • Are you interested in a formal or a more relaxed reception?
  • What season do you want your wedding to be? Summer or autumn for example?
  • What are the colours that first come to mind when you imagine your wedding?
  • What are your favourite memories as a couple? This could be key for choosing colours, venues or a menu!

Once you’ve answered these key questions, you’ll be on your way to deciding the style for your wedding!

Invitations and Stationery

Let’s all agree right now that receiving a beautifully penned letter in the mail is a rare but memorable keepsake! We all still have those treasured cards and hand written letters that are important to us for sentimental reasons and your wedding invitation may be one of those treasured items that your nearest and dearest hold onto for years to come.

Here are our favourite tips and tricks to make your wedding invitations come to life:

Typography – There is a huge selection of gorgeous fonts around now that are beautifully unique.  A handwritten script font of your names or even just initials is a classic option.

Layers – Adding different textures and tones with card, transparent papers and materials such as linen create a chic look.

Packaging – If you’re looking to add an extra special touch to your invitations, pop them into a box for a stylish and cohesive look.

 Ceremony and Reception Styling

Lets get the styling ideas started! Whether you’re having a formal affair or a relaxed garden party, your thoughts on styling of the space will have a huge impact on the atmosphere for your big day!

Flowers – Looking to add a luxe touch to your space? Flowers, hanging branches and statement plants can create looks ranging from casual and romantic through to structured and formal. Scattered flower petals down the aisle or beautiful bunches of flowers hanging from chairs can look great at your ceremony. If you’re looking for more of a statement, bring your altar to life with a canopy or arch decorated with an array of flowers.

Candles, Lanterns & Lighting – With a huge amount of options from luxe to less, candles, lights and lanterns create a chic atmosphere and make for some beautiful photos as well! Tall trees make a perfect space to hang small lights and lanterns from. Glass jars with tealight candles can create a perfect gentle glow too! Hang the jars at different heights to create a more organic look. Inside, lanterns look fabulous as a beautiful centrepiece and also highlight specific areas such as the bridal table with a warm glow.

Photobooth – Photobooths have become one of the most popular additions to a wedding and with so many variations, you can find one to suit your exact style. Our favourite is of course a polka dot one!

 Seating and Lounge Areas

Nothing completes your reception space styling like beautifully presented tables and seated areas. Having already decided on your colour schemes and themes, let your creativity run wild!

Tables & Centerpieces – A beautifully designed table is a great conversation starter for guests that are just meeting for the first time so make yours pop!

Round Tables – These are great for small groups and helps make conversation amongst the whole table flow easily. Add one tall centrepiece such as long stemmed flowers and then let your place settings highlight the rest of the space.

Long Tables – A long banquet table is great to have all your guests engaging with each other.  Table runners immediately create a chic style whilst lanterns, flowers and glassware add the final touches!

Lounge Areas – Whilst you may have chosen a formal seating arrangement for dinner, including an intimate lounge area creates a relaxed atmosphere for all your guests to mingle and socialize. Chaise lounges, cushions and rugs complete the look and you can opt for warm and rich shades to break it up a bit; don’t be afraid to mix in regal prints as well.
