Bec & Anthony
There is a modern feel to Bec and Anthony’s wedding day. The couple chose the National Gallery of Australia and with its bold architecture and floor to ceiling glass windows, it was a modern setting for a very love filled day. The couple chose Anthea and Lyndon Film and Photography to capture their day!
Bec tells the story of how they came to be. “We met in high school and have been together since we were 16 years old. We are best friends and have grown up together.”
The groom started off the day getting ready at Groomed Barbershop.
Bec found her wedding dress at Brides of Manuka. She tells, “The wedding was planned for mid-Summer so I wanted the dress to be light and airy, and I wanted to wear it comfortably all night. I had arranged to go to three different dress shops to find “the one” but it ended up being one of the first I tried – I couldn’t stop looking at myself in it and it was so easy to wear – I knew I would be comparing every other dress to it so I just gave up looking after it.”
Bec and Anthony chose National Gallery of Australia for their wedding, noting, “We wanted a venue that could host both the ceremony and reception so that our guests did not have to travel in between the two. The National Gallery of Australia was the perfect fit because it really captured both the garden style we wanted for the ceremony but also the classic sleek lines we liked for the reception. We love the architecture of the NGA so we didn’t need to go overboard with the decorating.” Bec walked down the aisle to The Wedding Song by Angus and Julia Stone.
“It bucketed rain for about 20 minutes before the ceremony started – I had to do two laps of the venue in the bridal car waiting for the rain to pass. We had to go with our wet-weather option but it was still amazing.”
Gina Callan officiated the ceremony, Bec remembering, “We wanted the ceremony to be short but sweet – we aren’t all that “showy” and generally don’t like the attention, so we didn’t want to put too much pressure on each other at the ceremony.
Because we didn’t have too many more inclusions such as readings, the celebrant suggested we have a longer introduction, and as we had friends and family there that we had met along the 10 years that we had been together, we thought it would be a great way to highlight some of the best times we have shared together and with friends so far, and to share our aspirations for our relationship ahead. It really set the tone for the rest of the day – a celebration of how far we’ve come and how strong our relationship is and how excited we are to share our lives together.”
“Sitting with Gina and talking about what marriage meant to us was a bit of an eye-opener because before that meeting it really felt like we were just planning a big party – I know it made it all the more real for me – I didn’t know how much planning went into the ceremony! It was a nice part of the process – to reflect on what it was all about.”
Of their photographers, Bec tells, “Anthea and Lyndon are a photography and filmmaking team. They take a documentary style approach to photography, and their wedding films are emotive and cinematic. Anthea and Lyndon are adventurers, dreamers, creative souls and partners – in business and in life. The thing they love most is when they meet couples as strangers, and end the wedding as friends. ”
Moxom and Whitney created the magnificent floral arrangements for the day, Bec explaining, “I wasn’t too pedantic about the decorating details – as the venue spoke for itself – but from the get-go I knew which florist I wanted (Moxom & Whitney) as I had been stalking their instagram feed for so long! Their flowers were amazing (everyone was talking about them) and provided some colour and flair against the concrete, wood and gold elements of the reception space.”
Bec remembers, “We had a bit of a balloon issue on the morning of the wedding – we ran out of helium for the letters V and E of the LOVE balloons – so my dad and I had to do an emergency trip to the helium supplier in the morning. I was so rushed after that to get everything ready to meet my maids at the hotel suite to get ready that I forgot to bring my wedding dress to the hotel! So a quick call to mum for a pretty important delivery was necessary. After that it was smooth sailing – but it was fun to tell the groom about all the morning drama while we were getting our photos taken – it made for some easy smiling and laughing for the photos anyway.”
Bec tells, “Anthony did a great job of his speech and made sure he acknowledged those that couldn’t make it (due to unavailability and those that had passed) but made a special mention to my grandmother – who was the only grandparent that made it on the day. It made her feel so special – she had an amazing time.”
Of the first dance, Bec tells, “We danced to 3 rounds and a sound – Blind Pilot. We had a few songs in mind but this song was sweet and it was nice to share a private moment. I listened to the song so much in the lead up to the wedding that I started miming the lyrics which was unintentional at the time but cute when I look back on it.”
Anthea and Lyndon Film and Photography also shot a film of the day. I love that not only does it should the love and emotion of the day but also the mother of the bride’s impromptu dancing!
