Fiona & Colin
When an Autumn wedding comes my way I fall in love and Fiona and Colin’s Autumn Barn wedding sums up everything I love about Autumn. Fiery colours, Mother Nature’s crazy plans and an atmosphere that is best enjoyed with a glass of wine! Angela Higgins was there to photograph every moment of the day.
Bride Fiona tells the story of how they met. “Colin and I both grew up in Albany, and moved to Perth for uni, but we met each other for the first time in Perth. I had moved in with Colin’s best mate and over the next few months, Colin and I grew particularly close – we were on the same wavelength. We always had so much fun together but it was not until I went on a family holiday to QLD in the June/July holidays, that I realised there was something more there, more than friendship.
I knew this, because for the first time, I missed someone so much that it actually physically hurt. Once I realised this, things were never the same with us. Seeing him for that first time when I got back gave me butterflies. I love that we got to know each other so well in those months before we got together because it set the foundation for an open and honest relationship.”
Colin continues, “Fiona and I met when she moved in with one of my mates from high school. After six or seven months of hanging out together and casual emailing we made it ‘official’ and started going out. The relationship just keeps getting better and better every day I’m with her. For my work I travel around a little, from one day to two months duration, the more I travel around, the happier I am to come home, to Fiona. Our relationship is something that gets better every day.”
Fiona chose a traditional ball gown with an asymmetrical neckline from Bridal by Aubrey Rose. Her bridesmaids wore lilac Dessy gowns.
The couple sourced flowers from Fiona’s aunt’s farm and had Joy Head arrange them.
The bride and bridesmaids were transported to the ceremony in the bride’s uncle’s buggy.
The wedding was held at Fiona’s aunt and uncle’s property near Pemberton. While the original plan was for an outdoor ceremony under the pecan tree, pouring rain meant the choice was made for an inside ceremony.
The bridal party stood atop a flatbed truck for the ceremony.
Post ceremony, guests enjoyed “cheese cake” and champagne with fruit and nuts.
Guests could relax with a glass of bubbles or enjoy a photo scavenger hunt set up by the bride and groom.
Guests returned to the barn for a sit down dinner. Much of the reception decor was done by the couple. Autumn foliage foraged from around the property.
Guests took home hand-picked pecans picked by the newlyweds as wedding favors.
Congratulations Fiona and Colin! Thank you for allowing us to share your day! Thank you also to Angela Higgins for sharing today’s wedding with us!
