My mother and I hosted my bridal shower. We choose to hold it 3 weeks before the wedding on the 16th of August because it was also my 25th birthday. I wanted a small party and because I live in a country town (Bendigo) and there weren’t many venues to choose from, I decided to have it at home.
We set up my house with a candy buffet. The buffet I found on the side of the road abandoned! With a sand and a fresh coat of white paint it turned into a beautiful vintage style buffet! I placed my cake in the middle with lolly jars surrounding it. I chose to go with a pink and white kitchen tea theme as they were also the colours of my wedding and to give the girls a little teaser of my wedding!
My mum had been collecting doilies for months and months to use them at my wedding. One night when she came over to show me her progress of turning them into vintage style banners. We came up with the idea of hanging them from the room. On the day, when putting them up, it really gave a girly vintage theme to my dining room.
The guests arrived just after lunch, got into the bubbles and started off with a game. The game was ‘Guess Katherine’s Age’. I had gathered some photos from my childhood, put them in frames and gave them all a number. Everyone had fun guessing my age and it was a great way to get everyone mingling.
My mother made slices that are family recipes, we also had cupcakes, meat pies, dim sims and a platter of dips, cheese, cabana etc. I also made my own lemonade, alcoholic and non alcoholic and had champagne as well.
After a few games, some drinks and nibbles we played a ‘pass the parcel’ game. This is a game played at every party my family hosts, however we put a little spin on it! My party was a quiet afternoon tea so we surprised the guests by putting some naughty x rated things in there to unwrap every time the music stop. It was a real hit! Everyone really enjoyed themselves.
My bridal party was perfect for a low key bride-to-be like me. I wanted to plan the party on a budget (but still have something nice and classy). It was also a great opportunity to get another use out of the candy buffet that I would be using at my wedding.
