If there is a place to go to for a vintage inspired gown with incredible modern sophistication, then Melbourne’s Gwendolynne is definitely it. “The Modern Muse” collection was shown at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival Sydney with each gown as beautiful as the next.
Designing purely with intuition, Gwendolynne’s strength is in avoiding trends and sticking to her timeless beauty philosophy – creating vintage inspired gowns that are at home in modern society. Each gown is produced in small quantities, allowing her to focus on producing incredible quality gowns that pay homage to historical influences.
Using the finest of fabrics – Swiss, French and Italian lace, along with Swarovski crystals and fresh water pearls each gown flows beautifully – lightweight chiffons over shimmering silks, long, sheer sleeves adorned with crystal detailing, embellished and carefully designed bodices, and sparkling, spider web like cascades of details that make the back of the gown just as much of a feature as the front.
Gwendolynne gowns are available at her Melbourne studio and from Savvy Brides in Sydney, Luella’s Boudoir in London and Mille Feuille in New Zealand.
As much as photos tell the stories of the gown, there is nothing quite like a film to show the movement and grace of a piece. So I’m delighted that we can share this film of the runway today.
