Cyn & Dave
Pouring rain didn’t stop this gorgeously coloured farm wedding go ahead! The couple made the most of the richly toned surroundings of Melross & Willow’s Estate and chose Mr Wigley to capture their wedding day. Surrounding themselves with handmade details, Cyn and Dave’s wedding is a beautiful twist on a farm wedding.
Cyn tells their story. “When we were on holiday in Paris in July 2012, we were on the beautiful Pont des Artes at sunset, on our way to dinner when David got down on one knee and popped the question. After yes was said, we got a huge round of applause from a lot of amused tourists! ”
The couple created much of the wedding decor themselves, explaining, “A lot of the elements of our wedding were DIY projects involving ourselves, friends and family. This added to the experience and we felt it truly gave us the opportunity to shape and style the wedding Cynthia designed the wedding invitations, menus and thank you tags for the wedding. A friend sketched an illustration of us both holding hands which we then printed onto tea-towels to give to all guests as keep-sakes.”
Cyn and Dave chose Melross & Willow’s Estate for their wedding, noting, “We wanted the wedding to stretch over the weekend and have a festival feel to it – starting with a Friday night BBQ , to the main wedding festivities on the Saturday and then having people back at the house on the Sunday to piece together the stories of a great weekend. Melross Farm was perfect for that, a large farm in the splendid Kangaroo Valley that had different accommodation for all our guests.”
Cyn walked down the aisle to “First day of my life” by Bright Eyes – pouring rain didn’t stop this wedding! Which was moved inside to the marquee to keep everybody dry.
The couple made sure to include personal touches in their ceremony, Cyn remembers, “We chose to include Hand-fastening (or to “tie the knot”) into our ceremony. Whilst our ceremony was non-religious we wanted to incorporate elements of our culture. Whilst reading into hand-fastening we found out that it was a Celtic tradition (David’s background) that was also adopted by American-Indian tribes (Cynthia’s grandmother’s heritage). The piece of material that was used for the hand-fastening was knitted by David’s mother with wool from his grandmother.”
Cyn tells, “We wanted the wedding to reflect our personalities and for all our guests to have a memorable weekend and to experience something unique that would live in the memories forever. ”
Cyn chose a gown from Unspoken and carried an orange bouquet by Seasonal Concepts who created the floral arrangements for the day.
Of their photographer, Cyn tells, “Both of us prefer natural style photographs capturing a special moment, our photographer, Mr Wigley, was great at doing just that making us feel at ease and comfortable whilst having fun at the same time. At different moments we were on bales of hay, in a scrapyard, wearing animal masks and riding an antique bike, all of it combined added up to an unforgettable experience.”
The infusion of personality continued throughout the reception, the newlyweds telling, “Both of us collected vases and old medicine bottles from antique fairs (as David’s father was a pharmacist). We suspended a ladder from the marquee, hanging various flowers, bottles and vases from this to highlight the bridal party table. Cynthia’s mother, Lidia, and aunt, Rosa, made napkins and Argentinian desserts whilst David’s sister helped us make the tablecloths. Cynthia’s father made a cake stand from a pine tree from the family garden. The weekend before the wedding, numerous friends and cousins helped to add an Argentinian twist to the wedding by making a pinata and Cotillion (party hats) for people to wear at midnight, as it’s an Argentinian tradition.”
The cake cutting kicked off the dance floor, Cyn remembering, “When we were cutting the cake that Lidia (Cynthia’s mum) made, DJ Vinyl Richie put on “I love you baby” by Frank Sinatra and the whole crowd spontaneously broke into song and that really kicked off the night’s party atmosphere. The party was unforgettable also – we had 100 people at our wedding and all 100 people danced from beginning to end – there was some very bad dancing but it added to the nights fun. ”
What a beautiful wedding. It is a great story, beautiful venue and gorgeous couple.
