Jess and Jamie
When Jamie and I first met, it was on a internet dating site 5 years ago. He was in Sydney working whilst I was in Melbourne living the singles life. I could not have imagined meeting my soul mate through a website, but it happened.
When Jamie proposed to me mid-flight on the way to Hamilton Island, I was shocked to say the least! I was completely blown away, even though we lived together it hadn’t crossed my mind. He bent down in the aisle whilst the captain made a speech, I was so shocked I didn’t even say yes – well not straight away.
We decided to get married at Morning Star Estate in Mt Eliza, as we loved the scenery and had heard good things about the venue. It was a spectacular setting and very much suited our DIY vintage garden wedding feel we were going for.
My dress was a simple lace dress from Anna Campbell with matching veil – I also teamed it with a tulle skirt for the ceremony.
I had spent the night before with my best friend Jas (My Brideslady) and my Mum, so we were all very relaxed and calm getting ready for the ceremony at the Estate. It was so comforting having them with me whilst we sat being pampered by Phoebe Taylor MUA and Kristie from Paper Rock Scissors Hair Design (0402 094 001). Both ladies did an amazing job of our hair and make-up, I couldn’t have felt more stunning.
I walked down the aisle to Jimmy Eat World – Hear You Me, which rang true to our personalities and our love for alternative music. Our Celebrant Paul, married my Mum and Step Dad so it was pretty special that he married Jamie and I.
My goal for our wedding was to try and make as much myself as possible. I love DIY, and I love to save money so it seemed perfect to try and attempt such a feat.
The restaurant at Morning Star Estate was a perfect size for our 65 guests, warm and inviting and very rustic looking.
My very good friend Cindy made our spectacular wedding cake, which consisted of a carrot cutting cake, orange & poppyseed, red velvet and vanilla cupcakes.
I made popcorn buckets full of activities for our little guests.
Our biggest and most surprising little secret that we had to share with our guests was written on the bottom of their favour boxes. It was only a date (15/11/2014) so most people didn’t understand. During Jamie’s speech he explained to everyone what that date meant. It was the date our baby was due. Yes I was 11 weeks pregnant and had hidden it from everyone!
I don’t think we could have possibly asked for a better wedding. It was such a beautiful day spent with my new husband and all our loved ones.

Ms Gingham: I love the photography! It has captured the DIY details so beautifully! Congratulations Jess!
Jess says: “We announced our pregnancy at our wedding and it was the best secret I have ever kept!”
