Are you becoming something of a magpie when it comes to collecting found items for your wedding day? Sometimes, it really is just easier (time/stress/heat) to find someone who has done the hard yards for you and sourced those perfect bottles or vintage servers. This is where people like the lovely Jane Marie Gott from Etsy store acreativelifestyle come in! Jane has a gorgeous selection of both vintage and up-cycled items in her store, and she shares her creative journey and wisdom with us today!
What was your path to crafting/working with handmade/DIY items?
Over the years I have dabbled in creative activities, whether it has been decorating my home, designing my garden, restoring furniture, sewing or simply making things. I started my ETSY shop as an avenue for selling the wonderful mini milk bottles that I thought were worth ‘saving’. They have the most perfect shape and so many uses.
Where do you find your inspiration?
I constantly keep my eyes open. I am a very visual person and live in an inspiring and beautiful part of the world. I pour over magazines and of course the internet and interesting blogs. When I see things,in my head I think about how I would make changes to them to please me aesthetically. I also love Instagram.
What is the most common question you are asked by couples?
It is usually the bride that I talk to. They want to know how the bottles can fit in with their theme and the different options they have. I can suggest lots of different combinations and of course, words or numbers can be added to personalise their wedding.
What is your favourite colour palette?
It would have to include white. I collect vintage white jugs and white vases that were made in Australia between 1930 and 1960. They look fabulous en masse. I like to add green to a white palette. I love vintage green but almost all greens that I see in my garden. And then thinking about wedding’s I would also add a soft pale pink.
Do you have a favourite style of wedding [rustic, vintage, modern, classic etc]?
I don’t have a favourite style; it’s such a personal thing but the perfect wedding for me has to include lots of flowers, white vases, white jugs, mismatched bottles and a simple colour palette.
Share with us your top Etsy store pick!
That is a hard one!
Locally, in Tassie it would have to be Ness Lockyer (marleyandlockyer) She has a love of white and a love of vintage and makes the most wonderful products.
Internationally ,I love shops that sell rustic French vintage items.
What is your DIY advice for couples?
Follow your heart. Go with your gut feeling and don’t be afraid to back your own ideas. It is your wedding!
What is the one tool you cant live without?
I use ” Orange Power ” by Planet Ark. It is just fabulous for getting sticky marks off my bottles.
Thanks so much to Jane for sharing her story with us today, I really can pour over old bottles and paraphernalia all day! To check out what else she has on hand, head to her ETSY store!
