Tired of peeling the PVA from your tired fingers? Is the thought of a production line for your favors making your head spin? Then leave it to the professionals and save yourself the time and potential mess! Today we are talking to the lovely Claire from Etsy store WeddingDesire, who is creating lovely bridal bits and and accessories that help make your wedding day special. With a background in fashion and bridal gown design, Claire is the perfect person to go to for handmade beauties – and today she shares her story with us!
What was your path to crafting/working with handmade/DIY items?
I started out being inspired by my son’s country wedding, set for 2014 and decided to open my Etsy store with just a few items…then it just grew, many ideas started flowing into my head and in my spare time I would create them.
I have been in the bridal industry for over 30 years and wanted to share my creativity with Australia and hopefully other countries. I have now sold to all parts of Australia, Spain, the US and the UK.
I also hope that more couples head to DIY as it is so rewarding. But if they are not creative…there is always Etsy!!!
Where do you find inspiration?
Searching worldwide for ideas. There is an endless stream of ideas available online, and mixing this with my passion for rustic/vintage weddings, at this point, there is no end in sight.
What is the most common question you are asked by couples?
‘Will their purchase arrive in time? eg, sometimes at the last minute things pop up with weddings, I have found that my Memory Candles are a thought closer to the big day! And of course then it is fast tracked and sent that day if possible.
What is your favourite colour palette?
Neutrals and different shades of white. I started out with whatever colour complimented burlap/hessian.
Do you have a favourite style of wedding (rustic, vintage, modern, classic etc)?
Rustic, rustic glamour and last but not least… vintage are special to me.
Share with us your top Etsy store pick!
So hard to choose one…I would have to say my Hand Fans, Bunting and Mini Milk bottles are equal.
I even created some reversible bunts and recently received a custom order for 2 x 4 mt lengths of ivory lace on burlap, my customer was so happy with the product (and so was I) that it is now a listing on Wedding Desire.
The mini milk are fantastic for photographic reasons, complimented with paper straws to match the brides colour scheme.
What is your DIY advice for couples?
To stick to your wedding theme, and that sometimes less is more. So have some choice pieces for your lasting memories.
Complimentary colours for your day is really important to get right, after all, you are left with the photos forever, so you should experiment to get it as close to great as possible.
What is the one tool you can’t do without?
Definitely my needle and thread, followed closely by my glue gun!!
Thanks so much Claire! To check out her other lovely items or to order, head to her Etsy store and drop her a line!
