A short ferry ride from Toronto is the Toronto Island and the perfect place to spend a late afternoon for an engagement shoot. Endless inspiration with bridges, swings, a small white church, and a beach on Lake Ontario were the locations of choice. Bride Shannon & Groom Maurice will be having a waterfront wedding at Cobble Beach, Ontario and needed to set the tone for their cottage country wedding.

The shoot started on the ferry on the way to the island. The boat was a perfect light defuser in the 4 p.m. sun. The photographer and couple hung back as people left the boat to capture some private moments on the ferry.

The photographer, Darren Goldstein of DSGPhoto, was married on the Island and so it’s one of his favourite places. Wandering towards a small white church they found a small railway crossing and had some fun with the signs, tracks and even the train.

Next they found a peaceful picnic table with the back drop of a yacht club. Along came a small family of Canadian Geese who calmly slipped in beside the couple as they kept smiling.

A quick outfit change, and a stop at the Island Church for some charming playful shots. Flowers picked for the garden surrounding the church act as a prop for an engagement ring detail photo. Shannon’s ring is designed by Twain Designs in Toronto. The centre stone is over 120 years old and was a Henry Birks & Son’s miner cut diamond. It belonged to her Great Grandmother on her father’s side of the family. Now a modern stunner, it gets rave reviews from family & friends.

Picking up some energy, the couple decide to play on a swing set. As a couple they never want to stop doing the things they enjoyed as kids, from simply playing on a swing set, to playing soccer together. Play is certainly a theme in their relationship… the Brides parents said early in their relationship that one of the best qualities Maurice has is he is keeps up with the Brides constant need to “do something”.

A quick break for some ice-cream to wait for the “witching hour” light as the photographer calls it paid off with some stunning beach photos.

The couple had a little fun on the lifeguard chair, and a phrase of scrabble in the sand that read “SG LOVES MC” on the shores of Lake Ontario.
