Steph and Jim
Today’s rustic lavender wedding captured byLuke Simon Photography, is infused with the gorgeous bloom from start to finish- the shade of purple inspired the invitations (designed by the graphic designer groom), the bridesmaids gowns and right down to the reception decor. The calm, beauty that comes with it also showed up at the wedding creating a beautiful garden ceremony and pulpshed winery reception.
The couple, being high school sweethearts were set up by their teacher! Steph tells, “We attended high school together and were actually in the same home room for three years before Jim asked me out. We were both performing in the year 12 drama play (I was only in year 11) and our drama teacher thought she’d play match maker, so she cast us as husband and wife. Luckily for her we already had eyes for each other and it didn’t take long for sparks to fly, we’ve been inseparable ever since.”
Steph chose the Karen Willis Holmes “Faith dress” with a pink ribbon tied into a bow at her waist.
Poppies Flowers created the floral arrangements for the day wrapping Steph’s bouquet in lace ribbon. It did, of course, include lavender.
The couple chose one venue for the ceremony and reception – Glen Ewin Estate, Steph telling, “We held the ceremony by the lake at Glen Ewin Estate, near The Pulpshed. Glen Ewin Estate is an old fig jam factory, which has been converted into a cellar door, restaurant and venue hire.”
Steph and Jim chose the processional together. “I walked down the aisle to “This Old Love” by Lior, which we chose together as it was a song that meant a lot to us.”
Jim designed the wedding stationery himself, using lavender colour tones. Steph explains, “My husband Jim is a graphic designer so he and I designed all the stationery for the wedding, including menus, seating plans, jam jar labels, place names, the order of service and of course the invitations.”
Steph’s bridesmaids wore lavender coloured knee length gowns by dressmaker Simone Kilian.
Of their photographers, Steph, remarks “Luke and Dave are an amazing team of talented photographers. They went above and beyond to ensure that everyone was happy and taken care of. As soon as we came across Luke Simon Photography’s website we knew that he was the one we wanted, and from our initial first meeting we felt at ease and comfortable discussing the wedding plans. We couldn’t have wished or hoped for a better photographic team and we were absolutely thrilled with the results.”
The celebrations continued with a reception at The Pulpshed on Glen Ewin Estate, Steph telling, “The Pulpshed was exactly the sort of room we were looking for; high ceilings, rustic wooden walls and the capacity to seat Jim’s rather large family. The Pulpshed, as its name depicts was originally used in the jam manufacturing, so it had a lovely earthy feel to it and no nasty fermented grape smell, that old wineries tend to have.”
Much of the reception decor was created by the couple. Steph had her family pitch in, remembering, “We DIY-ed as much as we possibly could. I had my aunty and grandma in Melbourne making tiny jam jars for bonbonierres, my mum making chalkboard signs, chair hangers, cake toppers and flower arrangements in Adelaide, various other family members collecting jars in Alice Springs and I made the super long table runners. I never want to look at hessian or burlap again!”
Of their first dance Steph tells, “Our first dance was rather awkward and funny. As I am a dancer and dance teacher by trade, there was a lot of pressure on us to whip out some flashy routine and finish with a dirty dancing lift. Unfortunately as we were so busy in the lead up to the wedding we only had time for one dance lesson, but on the night we were so involved in each other we completely forgot all the things we were supposed to be doing, right down to “where do we put our hands?”.”
