Heidi & Steven
There is something a little bit magic about using incredible historic venues – like Brisbane’s Old Government House for a wedding. The walls hold so many stories and the story of a wedding is another memory within the building. Heidi and Steven’s wedding (captured magically by Luke Going Photography) held their entire day at Old Government House, encouraging guests to enjoy afternoon tea after the ceremony before enjoying a cocktail style reception.
“We have known each other for over 15 years. I first met Stephen when I was in High School but thought he needed a haircut. We met again at Church, 3 years later, where Stephen apparently noticed me, but I was unavailable, he stayed quiet and I never knew. Our friendship group dispersed and we both went overseas in separate directions, but Stephen never says he never forgot me. Some 10 years later, when Stephen found me on Facebook and invited me to be his friend, I still had no idea of his feelings.
When Stephen sent me a necklace and earrings for my 30th birthday from the US, I didn’t get the hint. When Stephen asked me to his welcome home BBQ when he returned to Australia, I still had no idea of his feelings. Fortunately my mother had figured it out and encouraged me to go to the BBQ when I was reluctant to turn up to someone’s home who I hadn’t seen for over 10 years. Stephen charmed me all night and still I had no idea of his intentions so Stephen had to take direct action!
When Stephen said “Fortune favours the bold” and finally asked me out for dinner. We haven’t been apart since! ”
Rebecca Price from Weddingesque was hired as the couple’s wedding planner, Heidi remembering, “She kept me sane and on track. It was worth having someone experienced to help with such a large event.” Heidi chose a gown from Bridal Edge Dress Designs.
Heidi and Steven held their wedding at Old Government House, Brisbane. Heidi remarking, “Old Government House was perfect as both ceremony and reception venue. We encouraged our guests to stay there the whole day while we had our photos with an afternoon tea served on the verandah. I remember walking into the hall and getting goosebumps. I knew it was the place. It had soul and the people were so accommodating and helpful. It was perfect.”
Heidi walked down the aisle to, “The Piano Guys piano cover of ‘A Thousand Years’ by Christina Perri. ”
“My brother walked me down the aisle and the lead glass window sprayed colour across the guests and down the red carpet. My future husband could not stop smiling at me and he leaned in for a kiss before he even said his vows!”
Sarah Bailey from Soul Ceremonies married Heidi and Steven. “Our celebrant was wonderful. She helped us create a day that was really special to us.”
Guests enjoyed afternoon tea and games while the newlyweds had photographs taken.
Of their photographer, Heidi says, “Luke is so easy to work with; he took the time to get to know us and what we were looking for. He stayed with us the whole day and captured the feelings of each moment. Looking at the photos brings back each emotion we felt that day. I am so pleased to have had a photographer than made my day special and truly captured those special moments.”
Stem Design created the floral arrangements for the day.
“Some of our photos were taken in our favourite vintage and rare book store and captured our love of books.”
“Our reception was a casual cocktail-style affair where everyone mingled, laughed and enjoyed themselves. We stayed right until the end of the night as we just didn’t want to leave!”
A friend made the couple’s two tier wedding cake.
Culinart Creative Catering catered the wedding, with Heidi remarking, “Amazing food and so accommodating with all my last minute changes and special requests. One of the waitresses was almost mugged for her pumpkin soup shots! They were wonderful.”
Of their first dance, Heidi remembers, “We practiced for weeks, all for 1.5 minutes! But we were very comfortable and relaxed. It was beautiful, I felt like I floated across the floor. I had to get my dress altered so we could dance and not stand on the lace train! ”
Congratulations on your marriage Heidi and Steven! Thank you for sharing your day with us. Thank you to Luke Going Photography for sharing today’s wedding!
