A diy cake topper is the perfect finishing touch to a homestyle wedding cake. Read on to find out how to make this romantic yet contemporary timber version.

I found the adorable ‘You & Me’ laser cut text by Kaiser Craft at Spotlight. They had lots of other cute designs to suit your style or theme.

Caution: make sure your paint is non-toxic since it will come in contact with food.

1. Paint the motif using the foam brush. I left the sides as the darkened lasercut edge (so that it stands out more) but you can paint that too if you wish. You’ll need to switch to a very fine point bristle brush for this. Meanwhile, paint the dowel in a contrasting colour.

2. Once the paint is dry, carefully adhere the dowel to the back of the motif using hot glue.

That’s it! Just two easy steps to a lovely cake topper. I decorated the cake with paper flowers, also from Kaiser Craft.
