I love, love, love the fun and bubbly nature of Julianne and Aaron’s engagement photographs captured by Elleni Toumpas. It’s everything fun- bikes, balloons and bubblegum and you can’t help but smile at Julianne’s infectious laugh! Their story? “Aaron and Jules met while working at a specialized school in Brisbane’s far north and now live in the area. It was for this reason we chose to shoot up at Shorncliffe, using a tandem bike that the couple had spotted at the school. From there we brainstormed other prop ideas and styling options that suited who they were as a couple. When I first met the couple Aaron retold the story of how they became ‘officially an item’. In the school yard Aaron gave his then girlfriend a packet of bubble gum as a way of asking her out. When Aaron and Jules started dating, and after retelling this story to Jules, Aaron made a joke of handing her a packet of bubblegum as their relationship became more serious.elleni”
Aaron says, “What isn’t to love about Jules? She is kind and loving, creative and smart, patient and brave, fun and funny. She challenges me and supports me… and lets me be me! She also makes the best chocolate mousse ever and lets me listen and “dance” to my daggy records! I couldn’t let this one get away!”
Of their photographer, Aaron says, “We had seen some of Elleni’s work when we were looking for a photographer and we loved how she was able to catch the light and set a very unique atmosphere within the photos. Her photos suited our vintage/retro style and also the sense of playfulness and fun that is an important part of our relationship. We decided to have the photos taken at Scarborough Fair as it was where we were living and had become a favourite spot of ours with some whimsical trees and stunning sunsets often on display. We had always wanted to get photos with this unusual yellow tandem bike that we had at school. So we had to use that in our shoot and Elleni had the brilliant idea to get some hubba bubba as it was how I asked Jules to be my girlfriend. And who doesn’t like giant helium filled balloons?? It was such a windy afternoon and the balloons weren’t sitting very well, but Elleni was brilliant and able to get some amazing shots with them too! ”
Julianne says, “I love Aaron for so many reasons! I love that he is brave enough to be himself; going on ‘treasure hunts’ for vintage items, getting excited about his successful compost, fussing over our chickens (Captain Abigail, Pecktunia & Higgeldy Piggeldy)!! I love that he is always patient with me, that he loves even the parts about myself that I don’t like, that he is always seeking to be the best man that he can be, that he loves and values family, friendship and hard work. I love that he shows me the world with different eyes through poetry, music and a ‘weird’ sense of humour! Aaron is always trustworthy, has an incredibly beautiful soul and I am so very proud of the man that he is! And finally, I love Aaron because he is ridiculously good-looking!! (Thought he would appreciate that one!) ”
Aaron recalls, “I (Aaron) arranged a quite elaborate proposal involving personalised puzzles, travel, gumball machines, keys and locks, a whole lot of love and little bit of quirk! The proposal took place outdoors on Mt. Tamborine (a very significant place for us). It was a miserably wet day but by the time Jules arrived on the mountain the rain stopped and the clouds parted directly above us. The basic idea of the proposal was that Jules was given a puzzle and when she finished it I gave her a coin for the gumball machine. Jules then used the coin in the gumball machine and received a key which unlocked the next puzzle. On the last puzzle I used a coin in the gumball machine to get the ring and then asked if she would marry me! She said ‘YES’! Huzzah! ”
Looks like these guys had a blast! Ain’t love grand 🙂
