Jay Sonn & Joann
It’s the typical case of boy meets girl. Truly. We were only 11 when we first met. It was NOT love at first sight. She thought he was icky. But he thought she was cute.
Skip the teenage years and go straight into the college years, that’s when our story truly started. Oh the memories of cheap budget dates, movie nights, study dates at the library, walks in the park etc. Then throw in the perils and adventures of Long-Distance Relationship into the equation and you’ll get 8 years of friendship and love.
Jay Sonn, a quirky Melbourne IT analyst and budding entrepreneur (sPurpo) decided to proposed to his girlfriend in the quaint country town of Goolwa, South Australia where she’s been working for a couple of years now. On Christmas day of 2012, he popped the question and flashed the ring on the hill at the bluff overlooking the coast of Victor Harbor. Of course she said YES!
Thus began the planning of their ENGAGEMENT photo shoot! Enlisted the multi talented and gorgeous hearted, Alice Bell of Port Elliot and 8 months of planning and collecting quirky props. We were set for a fun filled day! Inspired by the many engagement shoots on Polka Dot Bride and other wedding websites, we had to have our own vintage picnic set up. I had a blast finding cool props on ebay, op shops and old books from second hand book shops. Our very hip photographer threw in a few of her vintage pieces to create our dream photo shoot.
Hope you enjoy the photos as much as we do.
We had so much fun with the props. We highly recommend props as they can distract your nervousness when you’re not used being photographed. Jay Sonn and I clearly couldn’t keep a straight face. 🙂
Oh, we love polaroid cameras. Love.
And our favourite shot. It was just exactly how I pictured the shoot to be. My amazing fiance insisted we pack my little cupboard into my tiny car for the shoot. It was totally worth it. It’s a good thing I wasn’t thinking of a piano. A big shout out to Alice for helping us bring our inspirations and ideas into reality. She’s such a lovely person to work with.
Can’t wait till our November wedding!
Pictures were taken at Basham Beach, Middleton, South Australia.

Ms Gingham says: Love engagement shoots!!! This one is very cute!
Joann says: “I am a petite little Asian chick who loves vintage stuff and antique hunting! Something about antiques intrigue me as they might have a little history behind them and finding out what that is is a huge bonus! I am a proud foodie and a shopaholic! (Which girl isn’t).”
Love the pics!
Thanks Nick! 🙂
