Chris and Cyndie
I am a French expatriate living in Australia. My Australian fiancé proposed in June 2012 during a safari trip in Tanzania, after nearly 6 years together.
We had a beautiful “French style” engagement party in September 2012 in Brisbane, Australia. I spent several months organising the event. Because we’ve decided that our wedding would be in France, it was very important for us to celebrate our engagement with friends and family in Australia that wouldn’t be able to make it to France for our big day.
I made the engagement banner and the little vases myself. I wanted to bring a touch of France to the event.
Because my parents live in France, they were not able to come to the engagement party in Australia. For this reason it was very important for us to work with a talented photographer that would create some very special memories of our evening that we would then be able to share with my friends and family in France. Julie from Honey Snaps Photography did an amazing job, she is a very talented photographer.
Our guest favours were French macarons, from Banneton in Brisbane. Some of the guests never had macarons before and many thought I had made them myself… I wish I could cook that well!
The canapes were of Asian influence. This was a great way for us to symbolise the few months we’ve spent in Asia before relocating to Australia in 2009.
The view from the venue (The Shadow Lounge, in Brisbane) was stunning.
Karen from The Powder Room in Brisbane did my hair on the morning – I felt like a 1920’s diva the whole evening!
The very talented team from the French Patisserie in Brisbane created this wonderful cointreau filled croquembouche to help us give a French touch to the event! Croquembouche is the traditional wedding cake in France.
Cutting the Croquembouche was a serious business and it tasted SO GOOD!
Chris and I both had a fantastic night and we thank all of our guests that helped us celebrate our engagement. I wish my family and friends from France could have been here with us but at least I’m very glad we now have some beautiful photos to share with them.

Ms Gingham says: This party has been captured so beautifully by Honeysnaps Photography. I love that the French theme has a twist of Asian.
Cyndie says: “My name is Cyndie; I’m a 29 year old Sydney-based French blog writer. Born in Paris from a Spanish father and a French mother, I grew up in Carcassonne, a small medieval town located in the south of France. After graduating, I moved to London where I rapidly met my Australian fiancé. From there we travelled extensively in Europe, lived in Japan for 6 months, before finally relocating to Australia in late 2009.”
Beautiful styling! That croquembouche looks absolutely mouthwatering…yum!!
