Let me introduce you to the dynamic duo Sarah Black and Kim Selby. Individually they’re talented photographers, together they’re Red Telegram, this week’s vendor of the week and a wedding photography studio who create fun, beautiful wedding images. Based in Melbourne, Red Telegram only books a limited number of weddings each year, so they’re committed to creating the best images possible for their clients- filled with real moments, real laughter, real tears and plenty of lovable joy!

We asked Sarah and Kim from Red Telegram five questions in five minutes –

What is your favourite after five drink?
Kim: Pimms and Lemonade (with mint and strawberries!)
Sarah: Good Aussie bubbles.

Your favourite weekend getaway?
Kim: Being a country girl I enjoy a good escape to the city!
Sarah: We have a little old beach house in Sorrento, Victoria, and besides spending the summer holidays there that’s where we head on weekends whenever we have the opportunity. In fact, I love to book Mornington Peninsula weddings, as then I have to stay down there for the weekend! We all especially love it in the quieter months, in winter we have a little Coonara than hums away all day, and I usually get the slow cooker going while we all rug up for a walk on the beach.

Favourite restaurant?
Kim: The Lakehouse, as Daylesford is not far at all from Woodend. Can’t believe we still haven’t photographed a wedding there!
Sarah: Really, just one? In Melbourne, it’s Movida, it really makes me feel like I have gone to Spain for the night. But I have to also mention that for my 40th birthday we went to the Royal Mail Hotel in Dunkeld and both my husband and I adored it. Would love to photograph a wedding there too!

What can we find you eating for breakfast on a Sunday morning?
Kim: Pancakes with maple syrup and bacon with my three boys!
Sarah: I am asleep on Sunday mornings for as long as possible. Next I look for a good strong coffee. Food is a distant third on Sunday mornings (surprising for someone usually obsessed by mealtimes). My 4 kids love blueberry pancakes on the weekends though, so eventually they come and jump on me to get me out of bed to start flipping. Note to self: need to teach my hubby how to make pancakes.

Your favourite wedding story?
Kim: Sometimes, despite all their intentions, brides can get a little stressed about rain on their big day. And their main concern is usuallly how to stay out of the wet as much as possible. The day of Sonia and Brett’s wedding it poured all day long, the sort of rain that requires you to put your windscreen wipers on ‘fast’. With an outdoor ceremony in the stunning Cloudehill gardens in the Dandenong Ranges, Sonia eschewed an umbrella to walk through the rain to her waiting fiancee. It was such a delicate but meaningful gesture, so beautiful, both Sarah and I were a little teary (well, that often happens actually)!
Sarah: We really do love every single marriage story for its own personality, but we are always a little extra smitten when a couple have taken the time to make/source/design their own elements. I still have soft spot for one of the first weddings we photographed, the wedding of Chris and Bron at Howard’s Hill on the Mornington Peninsula. This gorgeous happy couple sourced EVERYthing themselves, including all the vintage furniture, and they sacked their initial caterer because so many of their friends are firefighters, and they were concerned about everyone having plenty to eat. In the end, all the food was made by loved ones. There was even a children’s table with toys and crafts. Chris and Bron just thought about the needs of everyone, and wanted to make all their guests as happy and as comfortable as possible; they put countless hours into making that wish come true. That was so special.
