Nick and Liza
Nick and I met at work and it was the usual story of stolen kisses in the elevator and secret trysts in empty meeting rooms. I always found it impossible to concentrate at work as I would constantly be smiling or laughing at our conversations on internal chat and I always found myself flirting at Nick’s desk!
5 years later, I was so happy when Nick (finally) proposed. We were on holiday in Port Douglas for his 30th birthday. It was such a relaxing break away and we were having so much fun – it was almost funny when Nick suddenly seemed nervous one day and quite keen to stick to our day’s itinerary. This was not my usual easy going Nick. Little did I know he was so nervous because he wanted to propose that day at sunset! We had spotted the little park where he proposed from our boat while we went out on a snorkelling tour and it was just the most beautiful spot by the water framed by palm trees.
Nick proposed with cutest silver ring by Thomas Sabo with a red heart dangling from the top of it. It was just the perfect ring to propose with. Of course, he set me straight right away that we would need to go diamond shopping and we finally chose a beautiful Canturi engagement ring – bless, he had already known I had always loved Canturi jewellery.
The whole photo shoot was silly but lots of fun. There is a beautiful cupcake shop ‘My Little Cupcake’ on Ben Boyd road that we thought would be a really great place to pick up some cupcakes. Cath, the owner makes such delicious cupcakes (including for weddings and special occasions!) and it was so kind of her to let us start our photo shoot by taking some photos in her store.
Nick and I are very different; he wakes up late, I wake up early. I like to have an itinerary, he likes to wait for the day to unfold; I drink wine and cocktails, he drinks rum – but we find that works for us. Between us we have so many quirks that we don’t share on the same level, but we each celebrate each other for those things and enjoy those differences about each other. One of my favourite things is the way Nick likes to spend his time playing guitar – I love to sit and listen to him play. And Nick loves to see me enjoy the small things that I love: him, music, cupcakes, and cocktails. Our senses of humour brought us together; it’s something we wouldn’t change for the world.
We both love and live in Sydney. So we thought it would be great to continue our engagement photo shoot at Bradleys Head Amphitheatre which really showcases how beautiful our city is. We’re actually getting married in March at Sergeants Mess in Chowder Bay which has such lovely views of the harbour. We feel so lucky every day to have each other and live where we do.
Our photographer for the engagement shoot was Oliver Lang, Nick’s best man. He’s an all-round fun and interesting guy but photography is really Olly’s passion. We’re so proud of him. He has been exhibited in Berlin and also at the Apple store in Sydney. He has been invited to teach an iPhone photography workshop at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney, and is currently confirming several additional teaching opportunities for beginners and also advanced mobile photographers.
Olly is a fantastic street photographer – and usually shoots his photographs with an iPhone for the simplicity, convenience, and the conversation. It was great to have him take our photos because he managed to capture Nick’s very cheeky personality; but most of all how much we love each other!
*These photos were taking in the early morning (8:30 – before Nick is even up for work), so please excuse the tired looks. Special thanks to Nick’s sister Pip (who, like Nick, is not a morning person) but kindly did my make-up so early on a Saturday morning before she was due to fly out of the country! It looked great and just the way I hope to have it done on my wedding day.
Ms Gingham says: The Sydney harbour is such a stunning backdrop isn’t it? Liza and Nick look like they had a blast taking these fun photos!
Liza says: “I’m a lover – of food, wine, laughing, music, dancing, colour, friends, family and my fiancee! Life is about having fun and I intend to have as much of it as possible 🙂 “
You look like a very love blessed couple! Congrats! Sergeants Mess is a divine place for a wedding.
What a handsome devil
A true test of love – Nick appearing before 9 am! Fab couple! Wishing you lots of fun. XX
A highly original place to have your engagement shoot. Colourful and really catching. Well done you two. xxx
