A gorgeous engagement shoot in the Goulburn country side came my way recently from The Robertsons (formerly David Robertson). I love country engagement photos. There’s a peace and stillness to them that is non existent on most wedding days, so the contrast is beautiful.
Daniel tells their story. ” My favourite city in the world is New York. There is something about it that makes you forget that there is a whole big world out there and that everything you need in the world is at your doorstep. And for me, this was the perfect place to ask for Kat’s hand in marriage. I had designed an art deco style engagement ring and had it made in Sydney. It managed to stay safely in my pocket throughout the whole transit to New York and when it came time, I popped the question in a quiet yet quaint little area in Central Park. Fast forward two years and we are now finally getting married. “
“We currently call Hong Kong home and wanted an engagement shoot that would remind us of the beauty of the Sydney sky. Meeting David Robertson half way between Sydney and Canberra in Goulburn proved to be the perfect backdrop to an amazing shoot! With the whole wedding planned in a quick four day visit back home to Sydney, ending our ‘holiday’ with David and the Goulburn sunset will be something I remember for a long time, and we’re lucky we have such great photos to remind us!”
Kat’s version? “Dan and I have been together for almost ten years. He is my soul mate and best friend. Every night when we get home from work, we don’t stop talking about our day and most usually throughout the day, we email each other about our plans for the night. So it was an astonishing surprise for me to see Dan get down on one knee on Bow Bridge in Central Park that spring day in April. I wondered – how did this go about without my noticing? I will never forget my excitement throughout that experience, walking and talking within Central Park, unravelling his secret and discovering who of my friends (evidently all of them!) had helped him to carry out his classified mission.”
“The wedding planning experience has been leisurely and pleasant for us – possibly because we’ve had over a year to take our time to plan for it. After setting the venue we quickly embarked on finding a photographer. David was an instant hit for us. I feel that the one vital factor in choosing a photographer for me, would be to feel absolutely comfortable to be myself around him and fortunately with David, we got on like a house on fire. I couldn’t wait to meet him in person for our engagement shoot. David was fearless as he dropped on his backside lying in the midst of all sorts of the glory where cows graze, he had us climbing over wired fences and breaking through chicken pens – it made for an adventurous and unforgettable experience. Finally, I will never forget the warmth of the setting sun, its orange rays beaming through our silhouette and the calmness of being in the middle of a wide, open field.”
