Today I want to focus on your big day, and that one little bag of goodies that you will rely on… The Emergency Kit!

Yes, the Emergency Kit, something every bride must have within reach. “Emergency Kit? What’s that?” many brides have asked me in the past. I guess the word ‘kit’ conjures up images of band-aids and gauze pads as found in first-aid kits. While every bride should definitely carry a few band-aids in the event of a stray thorn on her bouquet or an unfortunate paper cut off the fancy invites, I recommend these 5 items, specific for dress-related emergencies.

1. A mini sewing kit, complete with scissors, safety pins and matching-coloured thread (it’d be pointless to have red thread when you have a white dress, after all). If you’re lucky, you’ll never have to touch the sewing kit, but if you come across a moment where you’re reaching for the thread, my best piece of advice is to have someone who knows how to operate a thread and needle.

2. Clear nail polish. Should your stockings or veil encounter some unwanted tears, this will prevent a little snag causing unsightly ladders, or ending up as a big hole.

3. Double-sided tape. After so many months of exercising for the big day, many brides are surprised when their dress is now a little looser than expected. If this is the case, some double sided tape can be very handy to keep everything in place!

4. White chalk. Inevitably, your dress will encounter a few dirt stains throughout the day. To cleverly disguise them, wipe some white chalk over them. Obviously this only applies to white dresses.

5. Stain removing pens/laundry wipes. As for wine/food stains, or for brides who opt to don ivory, egg-shell or champagne coloured dresses, I recommend having these handy pens with you. You can buy these from Target, Kmart and some selected Coles and Priceline.

Other items brides have been known to put in their Emergency kit also include a full first aid kit, toothbrush and floss, bobby pins and hairspray, super glue to salvage broken heels, a pair of flat shoes for after the dancing, and even a small flask of vodka for calming those nerves. (not too much on an empty stomach though!)

With your Emergency Kit ready, you’ll walk down that aisle knowing that no matter what happens, you’re ready and your dress will be in tip-top condition.
