Alex and Chris
When your lives are at different ends of the globe, it seems only fitting to capture one of the world’s most iconic harbours in your engagement photographs. Skipping Stone Photography captured Alex and Chris’ engagement photos around Sydney Harbour- Alex being American, Chris being British and their lives together? All over the world!
Alexandra (Alex) recounts the story of their life together. “Chris, a Brit from Manchester, and I’m an American from Los Angeles, first crossed paths when I decided to study in London for a semester while at university back in 2006. A chance meeting led to an instant friendship, but it wasn’t until 2009 that Chris and I would cross paths again, when I returned to London to visit friends. After meeting again, we ended up spending the rest of the trip together! We instantly knew it was a once in a lifetime kind of love that came from their friendship over the years, so even after I had to return back to Los Angeles at the end of her trip, we continued to see each other long distance.”
“A job opportunity came up for Chris in Dubai and I soon followed him there. While life in Dubai was wonderful and luxurious at the start, Chris and I soon realised we did not want to settle there long term. From there, Chris and I moved back to the US before embarking on another adventure around the world – on a cruise ship! Chris took a job as an Art Auctioneer and I tagged along as his assistant. We traveled from Alaska, to Hawaii, to Tahiti, and finally made it to Australia and New Zealand. After spending a couple months here, Chris decided to propose to me on a weekend away in Sydney.”
“Chris planned a mini vacation in Sydney, arranging for them to stay off the cruise ship in a hotel for the weekend and planned all kinds of activities to do together that normal couples “on land” may take for granted – like having a picnic in the park, going to the movies and going out to a nice dinner. One afternoon, Chris and I decided to go Christmas shopping for each other (or so I thought), so they were on their own for a couple hours. While I was out shopping, Chris went back to the hotel and prepared the room for Alex’s arrival with flowers, chocolate and champagne. Needless to say, when I returned to the hotel I was shocked but of course said yes when Chris got down on one knee and proposed!
“Chris and I are now “long distance” wedding planning and have moved to a ship in the Caribbean, where we get to enjoy a pre-wedding honeymoon around the islands while continuing to work as Art Auctioneers. We will be getting married this August back in San Diego, California near my hometown.”
