Brides-to-be are overwhelmed with beauty advice, make-up tips and skincare regimes that they simply “must follow” in order to be a picture perfect bride. Well forget everything you’ve ever heard, read or listened to. The following three part piece on bridal beauty contains practical information and advice which has stemmed from our superstar makeup artist Katerina’s years of experience with countless brides. This is Part one and in this part we will focus on Pre-Wedding Beauty.
Skin
No amount of makeup can mimic naturally fabulous skin. So it’s important to get into the habit of a good skincare routine that is tailored specifically to your skin’s needs and concerns and not necessarily going to break your bank account. If you have decided to use a new brand of skincare, make sure you start using it at least 6 weeks before the big day for optimum results, and in the case of an allergic reaction (it happens more than you think!) to allow you enough time to get your skin back to its gorgeous self.
Katerina’s Tip: 90% of women have dehydrated skin, which is a cause of fine lines and wrinkles. Get rid of the dehydration, get rid of those lines. Simple. The best thing you can do for your skin is to slap on a hydrating mask once to twice a week and the night before the big day. The difference it will make to your skin and the way your make-up will sit is tremendous! I tend to favour Clarins skin care, which have wonderful face and eye masks which my clients love.
Makeup
Make sure you have a clear image of how you want to look on the day. Rather than choosing colours, search for images in magazines and online of looks that you like, keeping in mind how they will compliment your theme or your dress. Once you’ve worked that out, play with colour and products.
Katerina’s Tip: Some of my favourite looks have come from times when I’m at home having a play with different products. If you are having your make-up professionally applied, make sure you show your make-up artist the images you have selected, so that they are on the same wave length as you and truly understand your expectations of how you want to look on the day. Make-up trials are a must!
Ms Gingham says: Keep it simple and remember that a wedding makeup artist has the job of making a happy woman look radiant!!! So stay happy and relaxed. 🙂
