Did you see the Semaphore Wedding Inspiration Shoot that Ms Polka was kind enough to share yesterday? Today I’m going to present the first in a series of tutorials to show you how to recreate some of the lovely details, starting with this sisal-covered vase with free printable table number flag.
For the vase, you will need:
- A plain cylinder vase (I bought mine at Baldock’s, a floristry wholesaler)
- Sisal rope (available at any hardware store)
- Craft glue
For the table number flags, you will need:
- Table numbers (download here)
- Iron-on transfer paper
- Calico
- Dowel
- Hacksaw
- Ruler
- Craft glue
- Scissors
- Fabric pen
1. Apply a line of glue along about a quarter of the vase’s circumference.
2. Press one end of the rope into the glue. Allow to dry. (If the rope slips as it’s drying, secure it temporarily to the vase with a bulldog clip.)
3. Apply glue to the rest of the vase and wrap rope around it.
4. When the entire vase is covered, cut off excess rope. Allow to dry.
5. Meanwhile, cut the dowel to length with the hacksaw. If the edges are rough, give them a quick sand.
6. Print the table numbers onto the iron-on transfer sheet. Cut out individual numbers.
7. Mark out a long triangle shape in the calico.
8. Cut out triangle and snip off the two end points to create a flap shape.
9. Iron number onto fabric as per packet instructions.
10. Gently peel off backing.
11. Apply two lines of glue on the reverse of the fabric, one along the fold and another along the flap.
12. Lay dowel along glue strip. Fold over flap and press down. Allow to dry.
Then add your choice of flowers or foliage (I used artificial succulents stuck into florists’ foam) to the vase and insert the flag.
