Bonnie and Damien
A little, sweet vintage inspired engagement shoot this Saturday from Shayla at Images with Love. Together with Katy from Hummingbird Vintage Hire, hair stylist Anna Felton and our couple Bonnie and Damien, Shayla shot a beautiful engagement shoot for this Brisbane couple.
Bonnie tells their love story. “We met when I was 14 and Damien was 17. Apparently it was then that Damien decided he would someday marry me. A friendship started while Damien lived overseas for 2 years. He returned home and pursued me but I soon thereafter moved to Paris for a year. Even a visit from Damien while I was there couldn’t persuade me to turn the friendship into anything romantic. We were good friends and I was content to leave it as such. Upon my return he was still there and waiting to give it a try. During the next 3 years Damien tried and was politely knocked back on a few occasions.
Eventually a test run at a relationship ended before 2 months was up and I told him that I’d given it a go but it just wasn’t going to happen. The next 6 months was agony as I wasn’t sure whether I’d made the right decision. Eventually (and for the first time) I was the one to approach him to make things work. The friendship transitioned this time very quickly into something more. Three months later we were engaged and 3 months after that we are married. The icing on the cake for me personally is that during our engagement Damien mentioned that even if I hadn’t come around, he still had at least a couple of years of waiting left in him.”
Katy from Hummingbird Vintage Hire explains ” For their charming engagement shoot, Bonnie and Damien embarked on a 1940’s Australian travel adventure – with a vintage camera, suitcase, hatbox, birdcage, a few vintage maps and picnic box in tow (just the essentials!). Right from the start, this so-in-love couple were open to something a little bit different and a lot of fun for their engagement shoot, and Shayla and I were more than happy to oblige. Bonnie and I exchanged numerous emails in the weeks leading up to the day of the shoot, each with more exciting details than the last as the theming, details and props took shape. Bonnie was keen for a ‘Foyle’s War’ kind of look, with a bit of a Depression-era/post-war vintage travel vibe thrown in – and green apples! Every aspect of the shoot was tailored specifically for Bonnie & Damien, including the handmade details and the selection of props used. Ifocused on deep, rich colours of greens, reds and browns – which were beautifully reflected by our gorgeous location near Brisbane. We were lucky enough to find the coolest vintage truck I’ve ever seen, just sitting in a yard filled with old farm machinery and begging to be photographed! In the lead up to the shoot, Bonnie told me she wanted to capture those little glances of love between her and Damien and that feeling of ‘being safe’, and I absolutely love that Shayla and I captured the essence of their relationship for their e-session
