Emily and Edward
I love today’s wedding – it didn’t go to plan, instead of dancing under the stars, the bride, the groom and their guests celebrated under the dry roof of the homestead. But that’s kind of what I love most about it – their cosy touches, their love for each other couldn’t be dampened by inches and inches of pouring rain. In fact, it only added to their beautiful wedding day.
Emily and Edward met at a bar. Emily explains, “We met at the Eastern Suburbs institution the Golden Sheaf Hotel in Double Bay where Ed wooed Emily with talk of Botox and his like for smile lines. Emily was living in QLD at the time and we dated long distance for a year before I moved to Sydney.”
Photographs today are by Cas of Caspix I love Casandra’s moody images of the day. The day ran smoothly thanks to Girl Friday Weddings who coordinated the wedding and assisted the bride with her plans coming together.
The bride worn a gown by Bernadette Doherty .
The couple held their wedding at Summerlees.
Emily explains “The entire wedding was onsite at Summerlees. We chose Summerlees for its amazing ballroom space and gorgeous outdoor areas where we set up cricket, boules, croquet and totem tennis. The constant heavy rain ensured no games would end up being played so instead we moved into the gorgeous cottage where everyone mingled and shared punch in a wonderful intimate setting.”
The groom and his groomsmen wore Ben Sherman pants and Herringbone shirts with shoes from Schmoove from Spring Court, Darlinghurst.
With their ceremony moved inside, Emily started her walk down the aisle to a special song. “The song was “You Belong Here” by American band Anberlin. They are a band we both love and having a more rock tune for the aisle song fitted us perfectly.”
Laura Julie Floral Designs created the bouquets and floral arrangements.
The bridesmaids wore individually made gowns.
Even through the pouring rain, Emily has one piece of wisdom for other brides and grooms. “The weather really does not matter. Yes everyone wants a sunny beautiful day but the rain made our day very close and intimate as our guests mingled in closer quarters. You can’t control it so don’t worry about it, worry about everything else!”
Emily remarks “This was very much a DIY wedding to give it our own feel and influence. All the wedding invitations, envelopes, place cards and decorations were hand made by the bride and groom with lots of help from Etsy! We also DIY-ed all the lanterns, the napkins (pinking shears girls!), the favour boxes, one of the punches (made by the Bride’s grandma and containing a whole bottle of Bacardi 151…go Grandma!), the list goes on…”
The wedding was catered by PB Catering. Emily recalls “The staff from PB Catering did a wonderful job as we moved around Summerlees at the last minute due to the rain. Patti from Summerlees was of great help and assistance and was always so helpful during our set up.”
Sugar Daddys Cake Design made the wedding cake.
Of their first dance, Emily and Edward have a story to tell and an occasion to make up. Emily says “In the end it never happened! The first dance was meant to be outside under the stars and lamps however the weather meant this was impossible. Instead we continued to mingle with our guests; maybe we will get one at an anniversary one day!”
Congratulations Emily and Edward! Thank you for sharing your wedding day with us today ion Polka Dot Bride! Thank you also to Cas of Caspix for sharing today’s images!

How utterly charming! I was lucky enough to attend that wedding and it was the most perfect one I’ve ever been to. Beauitful couple, beautiful flowers, beautiful setting – it was perfect!
Nice, a vintage car would have been great
Charming, romantic and intimate. I love everything about this wedding. So lovely!
Just beautiful. I love the pictures of them on the porch with the rain falling- so romantic!
The weather was as miserable that day, as it is in Sydney this week. Rain, rain, rain. BUT everyone still had a fabulous time (and some awesome images to show for it!)
Congratulations to all involved – looks beautiful!
BEAUTIFUL wedding! It looked like an amazing day in spite of a little rainfall.
