The weather had been inclement in the lead up to the wedding and we had planned for an outdoor ceremony (we also had a wet weather option up our sleeves). Being a planner and working with a couple for such a long period of time I want their day to be perfect for them so it took some convincing by my staff but we made the call to set up the ceremony in the wet weather area…you could hear the thunder booming directly above our heads so it was the “sensible” thing to do.

The ceremony area had been completely set up and looked beautiful then a spanner was thrown in the works. Approximately 45 minutes before the ceremony was due to begin I received a phone call from my beautiful bride asking us to setup the outdoor ceremony. I explained that we had just had a downpour in the area only 1 hour ago and the thunder was still loud and clear and the storm was going to hit again. I could still hear the desire for an outdoor wedding in her voice so I passed the phone to her fiancé so they could make an informed decision together. Knowing that if we reset the ceremony decor out doors and we needed to rush inside again due to the rain that the area would not look the way they had envisioned, it was a unanimous yes…the ceremony was to be outdoors.

My staff (what troopers they are!) and I got to work and moved the chairs, urns, carpet aisle, and other decor items up the stairs to the outdoor ceremony area and with only 10 minutes to go before the ceremony was to begin the rain came down harder than before. It was then all systems go! Quickly usher the guests undercover and come back to the decor so we could attempt to at least have something setup that resembled a ceremony before the bride arrived*.

In the end all was well. We managed to dry and reset everything for the third time** (please don’t think I’m complaining…I actually have very fond memories of this wedding and the couple not to mention that it’s a great story to share with people) the ceremony went off without a hitch and my delightful couple were announced husband and wife.
