It’s true what they say about love at first sight. Andrew and I met on a mine site in far NW Western Australia. I knew the second I saw him he was the man I was going to marry. Eighteen months later Andrew proposed on holiday in Sydney at Lady Macquarie’s Chair with a 3 stone Emerald cut ring from Linneys. This was followed by a long languid dinner at ARIA.
Inspired by the elegance of the Art Deco era, I wanted my wedding to look polished and for all the elements to be well thought out. I thought a black tie wedding would be timeless. We chose the most beautiful and romantic venue in Perth, ‘Indiana‘. Heath Ledger’s wake was held here – a large colonial house atop gorgeous Cottesloe Beach. With all the cut glass, fresh flowers and the amazing sunset you would have thought we were attending a soiree in the Great Gatsby (my very favourite book!). To translate our ideas into reality we asked Salli at Touched by Angels to style the wedding.
Our black and white stationery was designed by Annie P. Paperie
My bracelet was from Subiaco Antiques and Fine Jewellery and my earrings were from Peter Lang
Bridesmaids wore classic black full length gowns with an Art Deco style brooch. These were from Dion for Brides.
Shoes were bought from Marie Claire shoes in Claremont and I fell in love with the colour and the bow detail.
The gown was perfect. I am so glad I went with something soft, the photo’s really show the beauty of the silk. A gorgeous dress by Elizabeth De Varga. Flowers were a tight posy style featuring Ranunculus from Poppy’s in Nedlands. My wedding ring kept in with the Art Deco feel and was made to fit my unique engagement ring.
Our wedding song was ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’ by Tammi Terrell and Marvin Gaye. We are still getting compliments on what an excellent choice it was, so upbeat and happy, which is us! We decided not to have a wedding cake but dessert cocktails instead – this really got people up and dancing. We didn’t have a bonboniere either. With the money we saved, we donated it to the local Dog Refuge. We had a ‘well wishing well’ so people could write little love notes to us. This was surrounded by baby pictures of the two of us. We left the reception to the Cure’s ‘Friday I’m in Love’ – we were so happy we had the wedding on a Friday – it meant a long weekend for everyone.
Ms Polka Dot says: There is something about Perth and the weddings we see from that city! Pure elegance and soft touches in a beautiful setting, make Jennifer and Andrew’s wedding totally gorgeous. And who can go past the classic colour scheme of black and white! Congratulations on your marriage Jennifer and Andrew!
Jennifer’s favourite drink is Sangria – no doubt enjoyed while watching those stunning Perth sunsets over Cottesloe Beach!
