I’m always searching for great ideas for a Hen’s Night/Pre Wedding Party/Bachelorette Party that is a little more tame than usual- it was something you’ve requested ideas on too! Here are some of my favourite ideas- what are you doing for your pre-wedding celebration?
1. High Tea
I think there is nothing better than an afternoon with girlfriends enjoying high tea. Dressing up in heels & skirts the day can be differentiated from a bridal shower with a few more hearty food choices and cocktails as the sun goes down.
Sydney brides can use Milk & Two Sugars who can not only cater your high tea in your home but also provide beautiful crockery. (I love the polka dot set above).
2. Pampering at the spa
Everyone deserves a little pampering and it’s such a treat to have a massage or pedicure with your friends. A lot of day spas can offer group packages tailored to your wishes including massages, pedicures, manicures and even facials. Some spas even provide bubbles, fresh juice and lunch.
3. Dinner with friends
I love to have dinner with friends at a beautiful restaurant I love chatting while deciding which wine to order, choosing a main course and stealing bites of others. Quiet conversation fills my soul and a simple dinner with her closest loved ones may be the perfect option for a bride to be looking for something a little more low-key.
4. Cooking Class
If you want something a little more hands on, I love the idea of a cooking class. There’s a strange connection that forms when you’re pouring stock together or pouring chocolate. Most places which offer group cooking classes provide a relaxed atmosphere accompanied by champagne, nibbles and the best in ingredients to create a delicious meal you can share together.
Melbourne brides can try the Hens cooking classes by Ed Dixon Food Design which will have you preparing a three course meal including Belgian white & dark chocolate brownies with strawberries for dessert.
5. Lawn Bowls
Lawn bowls are such a fun way to spend a balmy evening. The sport which has had a rising popularity over the past few years (partly due to classic Aussie movie Crackerjack). The atmosphere creates a fun level playing field with the amusement of competition.
Perth brides can try Mosman Park Bowls Club which provides great facilities (including flood lights for night bowls) with picturesque views over Perth’s Swan River.
6. Belly Dancing
Belly dancing has just a little more potential for rowdiness than the other ideas but I think the idea is still a ball of fun (plus it works those stomach muscles, not only through the movements but through the laughter you are bound to fall into!)
7. Winery Tour
8. Picnic In The Park
Imagine your old fashioned cane picnic basket, green grass piled with large picnic rigs and soft cushions, platters of fresh strawberries, juice and champagne!
9. A Day At The Races
Don your finery and spend a fun day together – betting is optional!
10. Bake Bread Together
Gather ingredients and do this at home, or find an artisan bakery that holds cooking classes.
Awesome ideas! my fiends threw an old school slumber party for me and it was so fabulous 🙂 there are definitely a lot more options out there than just drinking out of penis straws 🙂
These are some great ideas! We are having a High Tea with my aunts and family back home and a couples’ dinner party with his family. For my shower here we’re having a pool party in the summer with chair massages. I love the idea of the winery too!
I had a high tea at the Observatory Hotel in Sydney, we all did the mystic option with a tea leaf reader, it was great fun and she was spookily accurate!
I have planned a high tea to be held in a few weeks time prior to my wedding because I honestly loathe the traditional kitchen tea idea – and I can’t be more excited about it. What a wonderful list of alternative ideas you’ve provided us with!
Love this list. Have to add the chocolate fountain party (my parents have them). At home casino nights are becoming popular too. And I like your idea of getting all girly at a beauty parlour. Just before our wedding, all the girls in the family (both sides) went to the local beauty school for “in-training” massages, manicures, pedicures and facials. It was fabulous to all go together, it was sooo inexpensive, and the girls did such a great job as they wanted to impress their teachers.
What about getting all the girls together and having a little cook-off at someones house…Master Chef style…I think it would be fun!
Got to love the lawn bowls idea – and its something you could even get the men conceivably doing on the bucks night.
