I love the simple Chinese touches added in to today’s wedding – the page boy carrying a lantern down the aisle, the birds on the stationery, the double happiness symbol and the lanterns. Against the beautiful location, the colour really stands out!
The reception celebration was held on the Granlibakken Lawn near Lake Tahoe.
Jenny and her mother created chalkboard signs for the wedding to point guests in the right direction.
The stationery was designed by Hello Lucky! and featured the Double Happiness symbol with two birds. Jenny and her mother used the logo on their table cards and place cards. The head table was covered with yellow and white ribbon in gingham, solids stripes and checks. All draped across the table.
In lieu of favors, guests were asked to make a donation (into a wooden birdhouse) to the Alzheimer’s Association. A red silk cloth was used as the guest book.
Jenny says one of the special details at the wedding was their favourite sweet treat. “I LOVE frozen yogurt and wanted so badly to have my own frozen yogurt at the wedding. When I finally found the machine at Party Time Machine Rentals in San Jose, I was more than thrilled! We added fresh strawberries (that my boss cut up for me as a wedding present!), traditional Japanese mochi cakes and chocolate peanut butter cups. It was a huge hit!”
To keep things “rustic” Jenny and Kevin served spiked strawberry lemonade from glass decanters and set their cake up on an old wooden stand and filled their reception with yellow flowers.
Jenny and Kevin placed photos of their parents on their wedding days on the cake table to honour their 40 years of marriage respectively.
Seating cards were hung with pegs from ribbon.
Jenny and her mother created the table cards- each table featured a different Chinese character with the English translation underneath.
Jenny and Kevin served red velvet cupcakes and a three tiered red velvet cake from DLish Catering– topped with two small red birds.
In keeping with the Chinese theme, red paper lanterns were hung from the ceiling of the dance floor and from the branches of surrounding trees.
Jenny says Nancy Liu Chin played an integral role in the wedding day “She did such an excellent job as not only the florist and event designer, but the one person who tied everything together. She did a beautiful job at creating the perfect balanced scene including every detail that I wanted. She did whatever it took to make sure it was the perfect day for the bride and groom.”
One of Jenny’s favourite moments? “Our movie-ending exit with the sparklers. It was so much fun that we ran through the sparklers 5 more times! It was so much fun and a perfect exit to our big night.”
Jenny and Kevin didn’t want their party to end at the reception, they bought a bunch of frozen pizza’s and beer and hosted a “Happily Ever After-Party” in the room next to the dance floor. They assigned a friend to cook the pizza’s, and people stayed up until dawn having a great time.
Thank you to Jenny & Kevin for sharing their wedding day! Congratulations on your marriage! Thank you also to Nancy Liu Chin and Mulberry Photography for sharing the photographs and details with us today!

Time and time again I keep coming back to look at this wedding. I love all the different elements of it because you can see that it all reflects the uniqueness of the couple.
