I think Heidi and Jae showed such perfect grace on their wedding day when their garden ceremony plans were thrown into disarray by Mother Nature. All I can see is Heidi and Jae’s endless smiles!
Heidi says the bridal party was instrumental in making the day full of laughter. “Jae’s groomsmen were his best mates from school and my bridesmaids were made up of my sister, 2 of my best friends and my cousin. Our flower girl and page boy were another cousin’s children. They were so helpful in the lead up to the wedding and kept us in high spirits the whole day regardless of the weather – you will see in many of the photos on the online gallery that we were just in hysterics and could not stop laughing!”
Using their wet weather option, Heidi and Jae held their ceremony at their reception venue- Sydney Glass Island.
Heidi walked down the aisle to “Chasing Cars” by Snow Patrol. Heidi says “One thing that was very important to me was to have both my mum and my dad walk me down the aisle. They separated while I was growing up but it was so special to me that they came together to walk me down the aisle to marry Jae. It was very emotional, I first saw Jae and started to tear up and then mum saw me and starting crying and when I saw mum crying I cried even more!”
The ceremony location change meant Heidi and Jae married with the Sydney Harbour Bridge behind them. Heidi says “We wrote our own vows. Our celebrant Garry Richards was such a wonderfully patient man! He provided us with a wide range of passages and excerpts that we could select to put our ceremony together, but we couldn’t find anything that really suited us. We wanted a short and sweet ceremony that was light hearted but meaningful at the same time. So we wrote our asking and vows to incorporate some humor including me promising not to kick Jae in my sleep and accepting Jae’s computer game addiction and Jae promising to put up with my crazy cleaning habits and let me steal the covers every now and then!”
The cake was by Mezzapica Cakes.
Heidi says “We danced to “Lucky” by Colbie Calliat and Jason Mraz. The lyrics are so beautiful, “Lucky I’m in love with my best friend” and have a special meaning to both of us.”
Heidi and Jae made the favors using boxes and ribbon purchased from Favors Plus, labels they made themselves and filled them with their favourite lollies, Raspberry Chocolate bullets from Goody Goody Gum Drops.
One of Heidi’s favourite memories was after the wedding, she says “We loved going back to the hotel after the wedding and drinking into the night with our bridal party and family at the hotel bar! The whole day seems to fly by so quickly that it was over before we knew it and Jae and I were not going to miss out on the rest of the night’s festivities. So we went up to our room, changed and kicked on with the rest of the crowd! It was great to spend time with our friends and family especially because so many had traveled so far to see us”.
Thank you Heidi and Jae for allowing us to share your wedding day on Polka Dot Bride! Congratulations on your marriage! Thank you also toby Cato & Pade for allowing us to share the photographs!
