It’s really exciting to me to see Australian businesses pushing really great ideas out (and allowing me to share them!). Today I get to share with you a beautiful dessert table inspired by the glamour of yesteryear.
Kristy at Imbue Weddings sent over today’s gorgeous table. With a colour palette of black and white, Kristy used milk glass sundae cups, tiered cake stands, black candlesticks, clear glass jars and black plates to tie it together. A big bunch of pink toned roses with individual blooms grouped along the table add softness. The lollies (or candy) in tones of black, white and a hit of decadent chocolate complete the display.

Hi Ms Polka,
Thank you so much for the post – it looks lovely. 🙂
Hey again, looks beautiful. Wanted to know if you have ideas on how to create a dessert table for a large wedding without going over your budget.
Dear Farah
The table looks really gorgeous doesn’t it!
Some tips we have come up with for you:
– keep the colour scheme simple for the accessories and desserts themselves e.g. one or two colours with glass or white.
– local markets, trash and treasures sales and garage sales will yield interesting containers – again restrict your colour choices to for example glass and white and build your collection around this.
– visit $2 shops for containers – try glass dishes, large glass vases or jars.
– try the internet and EBay – you may be able to find one or two really stunning pieces there to use as the most important ‘centrepieces’ of your display. If you buy one or two special containers, you could keep them tucked away and get them out at Christmas time or other special occasions, and fill them with baubles or to the brim with lollies.
– find a paperware distributor near you. They stock things like Chinese food containers, paper bags etc. Find large sturdy paper bags and curl over the edges and fill to over flowing with sweets, biscuits. Add smaller paper bags for guests to fill with scoops (try the internet for these too).
– Food can be ordered over the internet too. We recently had a party and we ordered toffee apples, fairy floss and popcorn over the internet and they arrived beautifully packaged and ready to eat. Jazz things up with homemade (handwritten or done on the computer) colour co-ordinated tags, ribbons. Buy the tags from your wedding stationery supplier or your paperware distributor – use twine for tying if the look is rustic.
– Food could also be contributed by family members. If someone in your family is famous for a special cake, tarts, macaroons etc they might contribute these in lieu of other gifts or you might contribute towards the cost of the ingredients for them to make it. Half the fun will be in planning with them the food that will colour co-ordinate with your theme.
– Lollies are found on the internet, or again a larger distributor near you. Try stores like Costco, or a lolly shop might be prepared to do a special deal for you if you warn them you need to buy in large quantities.
– An icecream bar (those that sell icecreams in scoops) might be able to give you a special deal on those large aluminium containers of icecreams in several flavours. Waffle cones, sauce like toppings in dishes, Smarties, chocolate bars etc to smash into the icecream, sprinkles etc are fun editions for guests to help themselves. Be sure to keep the icecream super cold though – perhaps before serving someone could scoop lots of balls of icecream into large serving dishes and sit them on ice for guests to help themselves.
Hope something from these ideas will help you. If you require more information please don’t hesitate to email us.
Oh, I really like this dessert table. The color palette looks very nice.
Love that look, very fun! Not to mention how hungry you’re making me for some sweets! 😉
