Ria & Craig
I have the most delicious nautical inspired wedding for you today and the best bit is it’s 100% Australian! Ria and Craig celebrated their marriage in Sydney and filled their wedding day with love and laughter.
Here’s Ria’s story on how she and Craig met.
“Craig and I met at Uni, my best friend was dating his best friend, they were both in our bridal parties but have married other people. I met him right at the end of his Uni degree so thought that it would be a really short-term thing – instead it turned out to be the relationship of my life! We were married on the 10th of the 10th (October) to celebrate 10 years together. Craig proposed to me on his farm in Far North Queensland – he made me walk up this giant hill in about 35 degree (I was swearing and sweating profusely!) and when we got to the top he just kept hanging around (cue more sweating and swearing on my part) and then heaven knows why after I had been so horrible, he asked me to marry him.
And then here comes the funny part – we decided not to tell anyone – not even our parents! We came back to Sydney booked in the venue and photographer (this took us about 4 months!) and then send all the guests an email with a Save the Date attachment. It was hilarious! Oh we did ring our parents the night before and tell them!”
As the former real wedding editor for Cosmopolitan Bride, Ria knew exactly who she would use for her wedding photos and so today’s wedding was captured by Craven Images.
Ria and her bridesmaids wore gowns from Vera Wang.
Starting a stationery company with her friend called Three Peas meant Ria created all of the wedding day stationery herself. In memory of her grandparents who are no longer here, Ria attached photos of them to her bouquet. Ria also wore her mother’s sapphire and diamond ring made in Sri Lanka when Ria was born as her “Something Blue”. She also carried a lace handkerchief made by her great-grandmother.
Pod Flowers created the flower arrangements for the wedding day.
As they wanted a dusk ceremony, Ria & Craig had a “first look” so they could have their formal photographs with enough light.
Each bridesmaid wore a brooch and earrings from Stephanie Browne. Ria also wore Stephanie Browne jewels.
After their photos, the bridal party headed to the MCA (Museum Of Contemporary Art) for the wedding!

Lovely wedding! I really like how relaxed they are.
This is a beautiful wedding. Really fun looking but not too fussy. With an endless supply of money, this is what I’d want.
Beautiful! Gives me some confidence that my own red, blue and ivory colour nautical scheme can be pulled off without looking too masculine! I’ve actually got almost the identical lifebuoy but using it for a ‘just married,’ sign on the back of the car.
So cool! I LOVE navy suits. Is there any chance you could tell me where the suits are from?
Of course Laura! On the info on Craig’s outfit is here on Polka Dot Groom http://www.polkadotbride.com/2010/09/groom-style-craig/
