I’m back with the second part of Katherine and Jon’s vintage inspired winery wedding! After a quick touch up, it was time to get down to the business end of things- the ceremony!

Katherine’s grandmother and great aunt adorned their walking sticks with gold ribbon

Katherine and Jon wed just before sunset in a ceremony they wrote themselves.

Katherine’s brother, sister-in-law and grandmother did surprise readings for Katherine and Jon during the ceremony.

As the sun set, Katherine and Jon were pronounced husband and wife.

Guests gathered in the winery foyer for drinks and canapes while Katherine and Jon said goodbye to their celebrant Jan Oxenbould

Katherine and Jon moved their canapés inside to the winery foyer at the last minute due to the cold weather. The original plan was to serve them in a courtyard where the couple had arranged for Morrocan lanterns to be strung up. Catching a private moment after their ceremony as they were rejoining their guests, Jon caught Katherine around the waist under the trellis. The moment in time led to the couple’s favourite wedding photo.

The couple did away with tradition- there was no first dance, no garter toss and no long speeches! Instead, they planned for a dinner party style reception with their string quartet playing throughout.

Katherine and Jon DIY’ed as much as they could! Makeup, hair, makeup, save the dates, invitations, menus, place cards, flowers and buttonholes. Katherine and Jon created their own stationery myself using matte blush pink and charcoal card from Eckersleys and charcoal grosgrain ribbon (the same ribbon was used on the invitations, save the date cards, cake and bouquets).

During their thank-you speeches,the couple presented their parents with beautiful hand-painted platters to thank them for their support during our engagement and Katherine’s grandmother with a pair of Swarovski crystal mice to thank her. She used to collect Swarovski animals but her collection was stolen years ago during a house break-in – the couple told her that they thought it was time she started collecting again!

The beautiful wedding cake was created by Rebecca Gayle. Katherine’s brother and sister in law gave the couple a Waterford cake knife on the night before the wedding, which they placed on the cake table and used to cut the cake (Katherine’s parents gave them the matching Waterford crystal champagne glasses to drink from on the night!)

Katherine and Jon collected photos of various family member’s weddings and framed them and put them on the table with the cake and guest book, including Katherine’s grandmother’s wedding from the 1940s and her great aunt’s wedding in the 1950s.

The guests enjoyed the delicious food and wine provided by Bimbadgen Estate. With the dinner party format, the atmosphere provoked deep conversations and many new friends were made- including two new relationships!
