A Cosmopolitan is a cocktail consisting of vodka, cointreau or triple sec, cranberry juice with a dash of lime juice. Its colour is vibrant and so it is fitting that this cocktail has recently gained popularity through ‘Sex and The City’ series.

Envision a chic, art deco New York style wedding with a twist. A A loft style room with big open windows, or inner city bar with plenty of lounges and cushions all following a glamorous ceremony in a theatrical style church overflowing with brilliant architecture. The venues must be grand while maintaining the city style glamour. Dress code is of course black tie!
The colour palette is the urban black and whites. Bring in neutrals like oysters, greys and champagnes. For a little hint of colour try fuchsia (reminiscent of the Cosmopolitan itself!) or bold jewel tones like reds and blue.
The bride in a gown that is like no other and unique to her personal style, a massive skirt, a one shouldered frock- a gown that hints at couture and is traditional with a twist. Of course there must be shoes- as high as possible and preferably by a designer with a name beginning with M. Bridesmaids (f which one can only presume there will be many!) in bold jeweled tone gowns or subtle neutrals- champagnes, oysters, soft pinks and creams- all are different and all suit the individual girl’s personality.
Hair is swept up in the most elegant of styles or blow dried to perfection, a big flower with a big veil or headpiece with glamorous jewels to accompany.
Big blowsy peonies, roses, trailing jasmine, rose buds, snow drops – concentrate on perfume as well as colour and abundance. We envisage your floral arrangements taking centre stage on tables, on an arch in the garlands hanging from the ceiling, in large urns – with the emphasis being on the pink and cream flowers rather than on the foliage. Chandeliers, black crystal, shimmering table cloths
Your food should be presented elegantly on silver platters or white china and should consist of interesting and delicate flavours rather than robust, heartily flavoured dishes. A towering tiered wedding cake with the detail only in extravagant icing designs. For a fun twist, serve cupcakes a la Magnolia Bakery at each guests’ plate. Champagne is flowing, as are the Cosmopolitans!
For a devotee of the romantic, the reading from the show could be a nod during your ceremony.
His hello was the end of her endings
Her laugh was their first step down the aisle
His hand would be hers to hold forever
His forever was as simple as her smile
He said she was what was missing
She said instantly she knew
She was a question to be answered
And his answer was “I do”
For music, think of a swinging jazz band and then hire a fantastic DJ to get everyone on the dance floor.
This is a wedding where you will have to just love pink and your groom will have to be the tolerant sort! But if you want to call on your inner ‘Sex and The City’, then this is for you!
This is the last Cocktail Celebration for a little while. I have some gorgeous reader boards I need to spend some time on! But Cocktail Celebrations will definitely be back and as always I’m open to your requests!
I adore the look of an art deco wedding, especially in NY. In fact, just recently I was dining in The Wolseley in London and thought it would be the perfect location for an affair such as this!

Ah…Sex and The City. Pink pink pink! Nicely done, Ms Polka! 😉
We thought you might like to take a look at our James Bond theme wedding board. It would also be a great addition to a swanky cocktail reception. Here is the link: http://www.banquetevent.com/wedding/misc/bande/2009/02/get-inspired-007.html
