Amanda & David

Amanda and David met through a  mutual friend almost 14 years ago, when they had just finished high school. The couple remained friends over the years, then one day decided to take Amanda’s dog Jazz for a walk together. After that, they found themselves spending days on ends together and the romance blossomed. When it came time to get married, Amanda and David wanted to achieve a romantic, modern and chic wedding… And that they did! Below, Amanda tells the story of her wedding day and how all the perfect pieces came together with help from some incredible vendors. There to capture its loveliness? The super talented Kyla from Love & Other Photography

We married on March 7, 2020. The ceremony was held at St Mary’s Church in Williamstown and our reception was at Two Ton Max in North Melbourne.

David’s suit was from Oxford. He wanted a classic black suit with ease and comfort.

I am lucky enough to have a super talented graphic designer as a sister, so we designed our invitations and day-of stationery together which was so special. We were on the same page from the beginning and it set the tone. I really wanted my invitations to be special as it was the first glimpse of the wedding for our guests.

I had never imagined what my dress would look like. I decided to visit only three designers so I wasn’t overwhelmed. The moment I met Megan at Marquise Bridal we just clicked. I can’t imagine having gone through the experience with anyone else. Every visit to the atelier was exciting and never stressful

My dress was fully beaded, fitted with a side split and low back. It was romantic and modern. I felt 100% like myself in it and loved it so so much.

We have always loved the Williamstown area. St Marys was the only church we visited. Its size was perfect, the blue stone exterior was beautiful and Father Greg made us laugh the second we met him so it was a no brainer!

Both my mum and dad walked me down the aisle to ‘I’m Kissing You’ by Des’ree.

We really wanted it just to be the two of us when we took our vows and became husband and wife, so we decided to ditch the bridal party tradition. It was so special and we’re so glad we did it.

We knew we wanted our ceremony to be quick and no frills. We had readings by some special friends and family members which was our way of including people as we didn’t have a bridal party.

We’d both never wanted to have a “traditional” wedding or reception venue – we wanted an empty canvas, something modern and different. As soon as we visited Two Ton Max we knew it was the one. From the exposed beams, the simple space and hanging lights it was meant to be. We instantly knew we’d have a good party there!

Florals were by the incredible Rebecca at Little Lady Blooms. Bec and I met and I gave her a brief of our colours, vibe and vision. From there I let the master do her thing! We went with hydrangeas, dahlias, roses, orchids and foliage. Everything was perfect and just what we had dreamt of!

Every vendor stood out to us! I am so proud of each vendor we used. All of our styles and vision came together perfectly and there was nothing to fault.

We had the incredible Kyla, who owns Love & Other Photography, shoot our day. We felt like our friend was just snapping photos of us, which really made it such a fun and easy process. Because we didn’t have a bridal party we were able to visit so many locations and just stop the car whenever we saw a spot we liked. It was a lot of fun and Kyla is so talented. Every time we look at our photoa we have a new favourite.

Our first dance was to ‘I Knew I Loved You’ by Savage Garden.

For a special heirloom, I used the bag my mum used at her wedding.

We really wanted to make sure we had great music all night – this was a party! Dave is a music lover and he put together the best list and worked with our DJ to make sure everyone was dancing all night long.

My advice for future marrieds? Cliché but it’s all about the two of you so make sure you do what you want, stay true to yourselves and it will be magic!

Ms Floral Says: Congratulations on your marriage and such a beautiful wedding! Your venues were stunning, as were all your styling choices. It looks like a great day was had by all. We wish you both all the very best and thank you for sharing your story with us.
