Driftwood and shells make an incredibly beautiful wall hanging! Beachy and rustic, your guests can hang a reminder of your wedding day on their wall, which is extra special when handmade by your gorgeous self! Once you’ve got the basics, you can make these shell hangings much larger and in more intricate designs. However, if you’re putting together a large number of these beauties, best to keep the design simple!

What You Will Need:

  • Driftwood, approximately 15cm per wall hanging. You can use any kind of timber for this. Head to Bunnings for ideas, or see what driftwood you can find.
  • Shells
  • Twine
  • Drill and fine drill bit

Step 1. Begin by breaking the wood into small pieces, approximately 15cm per wall hanging. You can use a saw if clean edges is more to your liking. Drill two holes in the timber. Using a scrap piece of timber underneath each piece, very carefully drill holes into the shells.

Step 2. Tie a knot at the end of your twine, as well as tying a knot on the other side of the wood (follow images). Thread the shells onto the twine in your desired pattern, before making a knot on both sides of the timber once again.

Step 3. If the knot tying is a little arduous, wrapping a thin twine around the timber after knot one works well too. Get creative with coloured twines, and shell designs, to create something extra special for your guests. A piece of the beach to take home will be loved by all!
