Most people think of Champagne when we talk about weddings but this week on Behind the Door I’m meeting a couple that is all about the coffee! Tim and Claire run St. Vincent Coffee in Perth, Western Australia and can set up a Hamptons style coffee, cocktail or dessert bar at your wedding or special occasion.

Tim tells me the story of how St. Vincent Coffee came to be as a bit of a big life moment.  “Not long after marrying, Claire and I (we were both born and raised in Perth) moved to Melbourne to live and fell in love with the Melbourne food, coffee and cafe culture” says Tim “St.Vincent has turned out to be an expression and culmination of what my wife and I have cherished since we first met”. The couple often organised or attended events and loved the sense of shared experiences and memories made through food and entertaining, and it seemed a natural fit to create something from their shared passions.

Once they moved back to Perth Tim and Claire set about creating the perfect coffee cart and realised they wanted to do something a little different. “My wife and I have always appreciated the Hamptons style and I envisaged a Hamptons kitchen benchtop on wheels which could be utilised as a bar or coffee cart at weddings and events” says Tim “At any party, the kitchen is often where people congregate, so we designed our cart to ‘get the party started’ as a bar for espresso martini’s or provide  beautiful barista coffee”.

I love the idea of a coffee cart after an early morning ceremony or in the afternoon as a pick me up between ceremony and reception. It can be styled to fit your wedding with signage or flowers and looks particularly enticing with a selection of doughnuts to go with your coffee. After dark I love the idea of serving a round or two of espresso martinis to keep the dance floor pumping.

I ask Tim what his favourite part about owning the business is and he says “It is a source of pride that we have seen it evolve from an idea to a finished piece of furniture which is at the centre of many peoples conversations on such an important occasion as their wedding”. I love Tim’s honestly when he says “Owning your own business is not for everyone…it’s 24/7, it can be stressful, it can be challenging managing cash flow and people;  but having said all of that, it can be very rewarding and satisfying, and also provide you with a level of flexibility which being an employee often cannot”. So inspiring and such an exciting new business!
