Erin & Scott

For Erin and Scott, there was no need for any fuss on their wedding day. The pair skipped all the formalities – the first dance, the cake, and even the guest list as they tied the knot alone in the beautiful historic town of Chiltern. The couple chose to hold their simple ceremony at a beautiful historic homestead to be the focus of their wedding –  Georgie James Photography captured the beautiful garden ceremony and amazing sunset of the day.

On how they met, Erin remembers “We met at the hostel we were both living at in Scotland. All I wanted to do when I went to live in Scotland was to get a Scottish boyfriend. I found a ‘Scot’, just a different sort!!”

The bride chose a beautiful hydrangea print short dress by Phase Eight  from David Jones. She tells “I wanted a dress that I would wear again. I ended up flying to Perth to meet up with my two best friends for my hen do – one of them was pregnant and wouldn’t be able to make it to our pre-wedding BBQ, so we went to her. We went dress shopping over there, where it took a few hours but I finally found my dress at David Jones. The three of us live in different states, so it was really lovely to be able to spend the weekend together and still include them in the wedding process (as we would have no guests there on the day).”

The couple walked to their ceremony together. Erin notes “Scott and I walked down our ‘aisle’ (the garden path) together. We chose ‘Hold My Hand’ by Hootie and the Blowfish because we both like the song – who can resist a good 90’s tune?? This was after months of looking for wedding songs!!”

“We both definitely wanted the handfasting ceremony, to reflect the link we both have to Scotland. The ribbon we used was blue as it’s our favourite colour. We will eventually frame the ribbon along with a handwritten copy of our vows” remarked the bride, adding “Our vows mentioned Scott’s Nan and Pop, and their marriage of 65+ years – they are very special people to us, and we look at them and their marriage and everything thing that has been created as a result of their love, and that’s what we want for our marriage.”

Yvonne McPhie officiated the ceremony. “Our celebrant, Yvonne McPhie, has been to the tiny island in Scotland where we lived for 6 months – it’s the ancestral home of her husband’s family. The island only has 120 people living on it, so I think it was amusing that of all the celebrants in Australia, we probably picked the only one who has been to Colonsay!”

Erin tells “We chose not to have any friends or family, partly for financial reasons (we’re saving to start a family), and also because in the early planning stages we came to realise that we wanted it to only be the two of us.”

The couple chose Lake View House, Chiltern  for their day, noting “We both love old buildings, and Chiltern is full of them – it’s a beautiful town. We were driving around Chiltern one day, trying to find a good spot to get married, and Scott saw the sign for Lake View. We went and had a look and it was perfect – a historical brick homestead with a beautiful garden and lots of character.”

Thistle & Fern created a sweet pink and peach posy for Erin, who tells “I just sent my florist a photo of my dress and asked her to create whatever she thought would look good. She matched the colours perfectly!”

Of their photographer, Erin remarks “Choosing our photographer was the first decision we made. I showed Scott work from a few different photographers in the area, and was happy he picked Georgie because she was also my first choice : ) she captured all of the things that were important to us, like the autumn colours, the sunset, and the old buildings etc. When we met with her beforehand to discuss what we wanted, I mentioned a door in the main street that I loved and she knew exactly which one I was talking about straight away! And she made sure it was included in our photos. She was very friendly and comfortable to be around, and we are both very happy with our wedding photos.”

The newlyweds chose Harrison S Media to capture this beautiful film of their day.

Congratulations Erin & Scott! Thank you for sharing your beautiful day with us. Thank you also to Georgie James Photography for sharing today’s post!
