Brooke & Andrew

I am such a city girl – I love the mysterious alleyways, I love exposed brick buildings, city streets, the hustle and bustle of excitement around every corner and I love the urban Brisbane wedding of today’s newlyweds Brooke & Andrew captured by Van Middleton. Brooke and Andrew wanted their guests to feel relaxed – they skipped the sit down dinner and added a vintage popcorn machine instead. It was just the kind of wedding they wanted, Brooke putting it into words as “a fun and relaxed celebration with family and friends who are important to us and our future.”

Brooke starts the story with the tale of how she and Andrew came to be. “We met in 2007 when we were both working part time at the cinemas whilst studying.”

Brooke worked with Made with Love  to create her elegant long sleeve lace wedding gown, telling “Andrew describes the dress as sophisticated and timeless. The experience was not what I expected. So many people had said that you will choose a dress that is completely different to what you imagined. However, that wasn’t the case. I knew the dress I wanted from searching online. I only tried on one dress and it was the one.

To be honest, I was a lot more emotional than I thought I would be and couldn’t even look in the mirror without crying for a good five minutes. As soon as I walked out in it, my Mum, Sister and Sister in law all started crying and I just knew it was the one as soon as I put it on. I didn’t think I would have reacted the way I did. It was a lace, long sleeve dress, with amazing buttons all the way up the back. It was perfect and Made with Love were so fantastic to deal with.”

Brooke & Andrew chose Lightspace  for their wedding. “It was such a fantastic venue. We kept things really simple and had the ceremony in the large space, with exposed bulb lights as the backdrop, and bentwood chairs. The reception space was set up using Lightspace furniture.”

Brooke chose Cat Power’s “Sea Of Love” for her walk down the aisle.

David Webber  officiated the ceremony, the bride telling “(The ceremony was) progressive and personal. Dave Webber was our celebrant. He told such a great story of how we met. We wanted it to be relaxed and really wanted to take everything in which we both did.”

Of their photographer, the newlyweds note “Very talented, very personable. Great to work with and still blown away by how he captured the day. Couldn’t recommend him enough.”

Brooke and Andrew chose a cocktail style reception. “We both had a really good idea about what we didn’t want so it made things easy. Our main focus was to ensure our guests had the best time so we wanted to make everything simple and easy for them. This is why we had the ceremony/reception at the same place, no formal sit down dinner so that people could choose where they wanted to sit and just a relaxed atmosphere. Music was really important and this is what we spent the most time organising. One thing we wanted to include was a vintage popcorn machine as part of the entrance to the reception!”

Guests took home a special morning brew, Brooke explaining “We decided to give coffee beans in brown bags with a stamp ‘BREW’ on the front (we collectively get called Brew). My Nana stamped all the brown bags and my Mum filled them all with coffee!”

Of their first dance, which was to The Beatles “Something” Brooke remarks “We just wanted everyone else to get up and dance with us!”

Congratulations on your marriage Brooke and Andrew! Thank you for sharing your day with us! Thank you to Van Middleton for sharing today’s celebration.
