gift ideas for the newlyweds

Typo Hanging Planter in Light Blue ($19.95), Rosso Antico ($22) Love Italy By Guy Grossi ($100), Industria Concrete House Set ($80 from The Wedding Nest), Glasshouse Fragrances Miniature Candle Set Destination Trio ($44.95),  Tom Dixon Form Bowl Set – Large ($175.50  from Wedding Gifts Direct), Tom Dixon Form Cake Slice Brass ($89.01 from Wedding Gifts Direct), San Churro Not Much To Fondue ($16), The Body Shop Honeymania Bath Melt ($32.95), Russell Hobbs Slick Stick ($49.95)

Plants and pots make great gifts for weddings & Christmas and this sweet little Typo Hanging Planter in Light Blue ($19.95) is an especially nice option for apartment dwellers who want a bit of greenery in their lives. It does include a fake plant so I recommend ditching that and finding something cool like an air plant to plant into it (unless of course your receiver has a habit of killing plants, then maybe fake is the way to go).

For the cocktail lovers, try a bottle of their favourite liqueur – Rosso Antico ($22) is a nice choice for Summer with its Italian dessert wine roots. The blend can be served neat with a slice of orange or can also replace Campari in a negroni (rumor has it it works well with clear spirit cocktails too).

Love Italy By Guy Grossi ($100) is one of my favourite cook books of the year. This book? It’s insanely huge which also makes it insanely full of Italian recipes, Guy Grossi’s Italian adventures and of course – cooking tips and tricks. The pages of this book hold no less than 150 recipes including crispy polenta chips, lamb cutlets, zucchini pizza and artichoke tortellini. Because of the memories cooking and shared meals evoke, cook books always top my favourite wedding present list!

Industria Concrete House Doorstops ( from The Wedding Nest) is a gift for someone with a modern sense of style. Doorstops are of course an unexpected present, but something about these made me love them. No two houses are alike and they work just as well as a doorstop as they do with a little vignette. I also love the symbolism of these for a couple building a new home or starting out together.

Glasshouse Fragrances Miniature Candle Set Destination Trio ($44.95) is the perfect gift for a couple looking to jet-set away for their honeymoon (or maybe equally as nice for the couple just dreaming!) Three Glasshouse Candle favourites (Cuba, Montego Bay and Amalfi Coast) come packaged in a limited edition box illustrated by the brilliant Kerrie Hess. I’m loving this package for special Christmas present that sets the mind dreaming for travel.

Tom Dixon Form Bowl Set – Large ($175.50  from Wedding Gifts Direct) makes for a beautiful gift for the lovers of minimal, beautiful sculptural pieces. These bowls are almost as thin as paper (each sculpted from a sheet of brass) and finished in a gold wash. The modern shape and style makes for a beautiful gift for lovers of modern styling.

I love the idea of giving a beautiful cake slice as a wedding present so this Tom Dixon Form Cake Slice Brass ($89.01 from Wedding Gifts Direct), fits the bill for something modern and useful. The couple could use it to cut their wedding cake and every cake beyond – a modern family heirloom in a stunning gold, clean lined form!

I love gifts you’d never buy yourself but are completely awesome. The San Churro Not Much To Fondue ($16), falls into this category. It comes complete with chocolate buds and all you need to do is pop it in the microwave and stir a few times and you have your own fondue set. Whether you buy this as a fun wedding present, or for your beloved you’re going to get a gold star either way!

The Body Shop Honeymania Bath Melt ($32.95) is a great wedding gift idea for a couple if you want something small but so very appreciated. Planning a wedding can be stressful so why not indulge them with something they wouldn’t normally purchase? Forcing time out and relaxation on a busy couple can never be a bad idea!

Immersion stick blenders are always one of those things that just come in handy for everything and this Russell Hobbs Slick Stick ($49.95) is lightweight, a sleek colour (also available in green and purple!) and easy to use for cocktails, fruits and vegetables, milkshakes (or protein shakes!) and really anything that needs to get smooth fast.

gift ideas for couples

Blacklist Studio In Love We Trust Banner ($149.95 Available from From The Owl), Tom Dixon Hex Bowl Medium ($175.50 from Wedding Gifts Direct, Luc Belaire Rosé ($54.99), W&P Cocktail Kit ($350 Includes canvas bag with leather detail, mason jar shaker, measure, wooden muddler, four glasses, four napkins, Available from The Woodsfolk), Laura Mercier Honey Bath in Cream Brulee ($50), Bruny Island Cheese Cheese Club (From $80 per month), Menu Slate Plate ($34.95 Available from From The Owl, Glasshouse Fragrances White Christmas Candle ($42.95), The Aromatherapy Company Therapy Christmas – Diffusion Gift Set ($34.95 Available at David Jones), Vittoria Coffee Espressotoria System (with limited edition Ellery Coffee Tin $99)

This super cool Blacklist Studio In Love We Trust Banner ($149.95 Available from From The Owl), makes a great wedding gift. The fun banner shape with the new take on a classic saying is just the ticket for a couple head over heels in love and a  nod to their pending marriage without being too sickly sweet.

Metallic accessories have been so much fun to see this year and I’ve been particularly eyeing off this  Tom Dixon Hex Bowl Medium ($175.50 from Wedding Gifts Direct). It makes a beautiful wedding gift but I also wouldn’t be unhappy if Mr Polka left this under our tree. There is something about a beautiful bowl that makes it a perfect present.

Nothing says celebration like bubbles and the new to Australia Luc Belaire Rosé ($54.99)  is produced in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, the breathtaking region in the south of France and is crafted to perfection. A bottle of bubbles under the tree of the newlyweds is sure to be golden (or in this case, rosy!)

This W&P Cocktail Kit ($350 includes canvas bag with leather detail, mason jar shaker, measure, wooden muddler, four glasses, four napkins, available from The Woodsfolk), is on my Christmas list but I love the idea of it as a wedding gift. The smart canvas bag with leather detail contains everything you need to create amazing cocktails (just add alcohol!) Any couple is going to be the favourites if they show up a picnic with this bag in tow and it’s a fantastic twist on the more traditional picnic basket idea.

Laura Mercier Honey Bath in Cream Brulee ($50) is pure luxury. This glass jar complete with honey dippper makes a luxurious gift for the couple that desperately needs time out, or you want to indulge. It smells good enough to eat (though I don’t recommend that!) but paired with a few luxury candles and fluffy bathrobes would not only work under the Christmas tree but also as an indulgent wedding present.

I mentioned Bruny Island Cheese Cheese Club (From $80 per month) last year, but as someone who has been enjoying this gift all year long, I figure I had to include it again! Any cheese lover will fall over head over heels for this monthly delivery (the added extras a very special too, local Tasmanian produce and the most delicious). Each month contains four to five cheeses with an accompaniment. I think Saint is my favourite, though I love Smoked Truckle and Nanna’s Undies too (the stories behind the names are just as fun as getting the cheese itself!) Purchasing a few months of this for a wedding present? Definitely a good idea.

Slate plates are a stunning piece to add to your table and these Menu Slate Plate ($34.95 Available from From The Owl) make for a stylish and chic wedding gift.  Place under each place setting for something bold, or use them as serving platters for your dinner parties (and with their chic, clean shape, a set of these makes a great wedding gift).

This year Glasshouse Fragrances teamed up with the incredible Kerrie Hess for their Christmas collection and the White Christmas Candle ($42.95),which is my favourite Christmas candle is such a treat. Luxury candles like this are not often something people can justify for themselves, so purchasing as  a gift – whether it be as a wedding or Christmas present is pretty special and when it’s packaged as beautifully as this one, it makes it all the more special.

The Aromatherapy Company Therapy Christmas – Diffusion Gift Set ($34.95 available at David Jones) is a little piece of luxury for a couple who loves their home smelling divine. It contains three scents (Lavender & Wild Chamomile, Cocca Vanilla & Cassia and Wild Mint & Bergamot) made with essential oils and softly dispersed around the room with the reed diffusers.

If your couple loves coffee but doesn’t want to go for a complicated system then the Vittoria Coffee Espressotoria System (with limited edition Ellery Coffee Tin $99) might be just right for them. Not only does this machine come with a chic coffee tin with an Ellery designed print for a limited time, but it also has a 2 year warranty, 19 bar pump pressure, programmable pour function and an energy saver mode. They’ve designed it so it works with a number of different coffee capsules and its definitely going to make the ‘not so good at mornings’ receiver smile!

wedding gift ideas

Roundie Towel – The Paradis ($99 Available from From The Owl), Rose St Trading Co Initial Box in White ($119.95), Paddington Tea Tulsi Rose Tea ($11.60) Bonnie & Neil Wall Vase in Green ($80 Available from The Woodsfolk) Marshall Stanmore active stereo speaker (From $649), HK Living Cross Hooks (Small $15 & Large $35 in teal and grey from The Wedding Nest), Factory Ceramics Ribbed & Woven bowls ($32 each Emerald & Ella) Daily Blooms Monthly Flower Subscription (From $28 a month),  Samantha Wills Carved Photo Frame ($49.95), Tea Forte Tea Over Ice Brewing Pitcher ($59.50)

Roundie Towel – The Paradis ($99 available from From The Owl) is a brilliant wedding gift for a beach loving couple (you can even purchase a leather harness to make transport easy!). The best part about Roundie towels? Well not only the obvious shape of them (yes, they’re round!) but it’s also enormous at 1500mm in diameter making it perfect for the beach or a picnic and for two of you! Awesome beach towels are not something one tends to buy oneself so I’m putting this down in the awesome gifts to buy your favourites in love category.

Rose St Trading Co Initial Box in White ($119.95) makes for a wonderful way for the newlyweds to keep their trinkets together It’s meant to be a jewellery box (so if you’re looking for the bride, this works for her too!) but I love the idea of gifting this with the couple’s married initial as a place to store their wedding treasures. Place cards,  a favourite wedding photo, a dried flower petal, sprinkles of confetti, it could become a wedding time capsule of sorts (and as someone very sentimental that is very much appealing to me!)

Paddington Tea Tulsi Rose Tea ($11.60) makes a great gift for under the tree. Setting a couple up with an array of beautiful teas (especially for you to drink when you visit!) makes for a beautiful gift. It’s pampering and delicious and a special way of supporting the newlyweds as they begin married life.

Now if you’re buying for the flower or garden lovers, then a set of these fun Bonnie & Neil Wall Vase in Green ($80 Available from The Woodsfolk) might be just the thing you’re looking for. With the signature Bonnie & Neil prints on fine Tasmanian Oak complete with an amber bottle to display your blooms. Perfect for something who has everything but needs something just this cool.

I can’t get over how much I love the vintage look to this Marshall Stanmore active stereo speaker (From $649), Available in black, brown and cream the speaker might look retro but is so very modern. It has Bluetooth technology, plugs into your record player and even connects to your phone so you can get the best sound (it’ll even work with your Apple TV!) . One for the music adoring couple.

These HK Living Cross Hooks (Small $15 & Large $35 in teal and grey from The Wedding Nest) are a fun stocking stuffer for someone who always has too much stuff! I love the fun touch these add to a home while providing new storage options (also great for the people always losing their keys or bag!)

I love nothing more than a Friday night filled with cheese, chips and dip. So these Factory Ceramics Ribbed & Woven bowls ($32 each Emerald & Ella) definitely make it into my wedding and Christmas gift lists! The gorgeously coloured bowls are made in New Zealand and the textures make them extra special and just the ticket to be filled with your favourite foods for a night in with friends (and if you’re a sweet lover can you imagine the pink bowl filled with white marshmallows? The mint with pink musk sticks? Oh this might work for the colour coordinating obsessed couple too!)

This might be one of my favourite gift ideas this year – a monthly flower subscription! Daily Blooms Monthly Flower Subscription (from $28 a month), delivers a bunch of in season blooms to the receiver once  a week, fortnight or month. Imagine the newlyweds opening their door every month to receive a beautiful bunch of blooms? I think this is definitively a gift that keeps on giving long after the fun of the wedding day itself. (For Sydney try Little Flowers & Brisbane Urban Bloom)

I love a beautiful photo frame (I never have enough!) so I included this Samantha Wills Carved Photo Frame ($49.95) which makes for a great wedding or Christmas gift! I love the carved look of this one and you could go the extra mile and slip in a photo printing voucher so the receiver has no excuse to not pop a beautiful photo inside.

For the iced tea lovers – let me introduce you to the Tea Forte Tea Over Ice Brewing Pitcher ($59.50). Brew the tea in the top glass, add stacks of ice to the bottom, then once brewed to your desired strength pour the tea over the ice. It eliminates watery, warm tea and creates a delicious Summer drink in a fast and easy way. Long Summer days are made all the sweeter with iced teas and this gift? It would be so very welcome under my tree.
