David and Amy

David and I first met while working at a First Choice Liquor store. David’s twin brother Alan had actually worked there before David so on David’s first day I was a bit confused! It was always a fun shift working with David and we soon became friends before we eventually started dating. Many of our coworkers knew we would be together even before we did!

I got my wedding dress from White Lily Couture.  It was the third dress I tried on in the first shop I went to and I loved it. Everyone told me I should look around just to see what else is out there. However every shop I went into all I could think about was my perfect dress! The first dress you love is usually always the right dress.

My beautiful bouquets were done by The Lush Lily. Jo was amazing and knew exactly what I wanted. I had my “something old” wrapped around my bouquet as well which was my nanna’s locket.

Porcelain Face Makeup Artistry did our hair and makeup on the day. Summa was amazing and made me and my bridesmaids feel so beautiful. I had so much fun getting ready with my girls and mum – they kept me calm and relaxed.

The morning of the wedding was very overcast and rainy at times. When I tell this story it sounds like a movie but just as we were waiting to walk down the aisle the clouds parted, the sun came out and it was absolutely beautiful! My dad walked me down the aisle to ‘Iris’ by Goo Goo Dolls.

Just as I reached the end of the aisle my veil flew out of my hair.  I actually love that this happened as it set the tone for a relaxed and fun ceremony and reception.  It’s the little imperfect things like this that make the day memorable.

We had our ceremony and reception at The Landing at Dockside at Kangaroo Point, Brisbane. As soon as we walked in we knew it was the venue for us. All the staff – especially Penny were wonderful and ensured everything ran smoothly. The food was also exceptional which is always very important!  Our celebrant was Bianca Neaves who gave us a relaxed yet heartfelt and personalised ceremony.

Our photographer was Nick Evans. I don’t have enough positive things to say about Nick! Not only is he an amazingly talented photographer but he is just a great guy to hang out with which made the whole day fun. Our location photo shoot was actually one of my favorite parts of the day. Nick made us and our guests feel very comfortable which meant he captured some great moments.

We included quite a bit of DIY to achieve our rustic Brisbane wedding. With the help of friends I collected jars and bottles over a year and spent hours scrubbing these to wrap in lace, twine and burlap, which two of my lovely friends set up with market flowers the morning of the wedding. We used old wine bottles as chalkboard table numbers. I also baked shortbread cookies the week of the wedding to package in bags which I individually stamped with guests names to double as their place card. We also created our own wishing well from a vintage suitcase. I highly recommend DIY – I enjoyed all my DIY projects and loved seeing everything come together on the day.

Our cake was by Frosted Indulgence.

Our first dance was to an acoustic version of Everlong – Foo Fighters.

The best advice I read before our wedding which I want to pass onto other couples is – dance like you are at someone else’s wedding!  This is your night and you need to enjoy it.

Ms Gingham says: Such a lovely collection of images. All the DIY touches are a real success. Thanks for sharing your wedding Amy!

Amy says: “Hi! I am a 27 year old Brissie girl who just got married 2 months ago 🙂 My fav time of the day when I was wedding planning was when I made my morning cup of tea and settled in to look at Polka Dot Bride (I am currently having withdrawals and trying to justify why I still need to look at wedding blogs!!) I was so inspired by reading other couple’s wedding stories and seeing their pictures – I would love to give back and inspire other couples on their wedding planning journey. :)”
