Lucy and Andrew

The classic beauty of today’s wedding is such a delight. While the rain poured down, it made for nothing less than a beautiful wedding day for Lucy & Andrew held at Summerfields Country House & Estate in Victoria.

Lucy tells the romantic story of how she and Andrew came to be. “It was love at first sight she said, simple as that. It doesn’t happen to many people especially on a blind date, but it must have been fate for Andrew and Lucy.

Lucy’s sister and Andrew’s best friend had played matchmaker, and so it was that Andrew arranged to meet her at Grossi Florentinos on Bourke Street. Lucy said she would be the girl holding the pink phone. Taken by surprise at their mutual admiration of each other, fate had other plans. Lucy was just seven weeks away from starting her new job as an air-hostess with Emirates, which meant the dating game was not so straight forward.

For the next year, Lucy and Andrew would catch up once a month and also during her leave. Lucy would fly into Melbourne and they would spend 24 hours together before she would fly out again. They even met up for romantic trips around the globe whenever possible. When Lucy couldn’t see Andrew, she wrote him letters which were postmarked from all the over the world. However after some time away she eventually decided she missed him enough to return home and become a teacher.

It was on one of their weekends away in the Yarra Valley that Andrew proposed to Lucy. She was oblivious to his intent as they visited different wineries, went trout fishing and finally ended up at Woodlands Retreat ,where they shared a bottle of red as he cooked their catch for dinner.

It was after dinner that Andrew casually passed Lucy a beautiful book. Each page was filled with memories of their life together since that first date. The pages were adorned with photos taken together and every letter Lucy had ever written to Andrew. Finally she reached the last page and there written on a post-it note were the words, “Will you marry me?”.

He bought a beautiful ring – and, as fate would have it, the ring was from the same jeweller that Lucy’s father had bought an engagement ring for her mother many years earlier.”

Mary Schibeci styled the girl’s hair while Jaci Rowland of Aquila Beauty Spot styled the girl’s makeup. The couple’s nieces- Lucy’s niece Ella from Sweden (age 5) and Andrew’s niece Grace (age 2) were the couple’s flower girls.

Lucy made the stationery, but that wasn’t the only element of the day that was handmade. Lucy explains, “All invitations, save the dates, thank you cards, table place cards, cupcake petal baskets and menus were made by me. Andrew’s father’s partner Heather was responsible for the wedding reception decorations (which we set up ourselves), My Aunt Julie made all bouquets, flower girls head pieces, flower buckets for the aisle and my mother Wendy hand painted the welcome sign. ”

Lucy wore a stunning gown with bow detail from Baccini and Hill. She paired it with shoes from Alan Pinkus and vintage jewels. Lucy explains “A meaningful present from Andrew, a small airplane pendant, was pinned into the lining of  my dress as I have worn it every day since receiving it. Alongside it was a bluebird from my grandmother given to me at birth. I also wore my Aunty’s wedding headpiece and veil. I wore her mother’s bracelet (which my father gave my mother on their first date) as something borrowed. And a sentimental watch – a gift from my father.”

Lucy’s bridesmaids wore white gowns from  Pilgrim with shoes from Tony Bianco and jewels from Diva.

Lucy and Andrew held their wedding celebrations at Summerfields Country House & Estate. Lucy remarks “Summerfields country estate was a gorgeous location which summed up our ideals in life – beautifully relaxed, with precise attention to detail. ”

Lucy’s bouquet was created by her aunt. Lucy explains “Julie, my aunty, arranged the bouquet – a beautiful blend of David Austin roses and wild flowers picked right from my grandfather’s garden. The creamy hues mixed with the pale orange and deep green accents seemed to make the collection of blooms subtly glow when held against the ivory fabric of the dress.”

Andrew and his groomsmen wore suits from Formal Red Suit Hire.

The ceremony was moved inside due to the rain, but it certainly didn’t dampen the beauty of the ceremony. Raleigh Williams and Owen Downie played (and sang) Sara Bareilles’s “One Sweet Love” as Lucy walked down the aisle with her parents. Lucy recalls “As they have stood by me my whole life, so too they stood beside me on my wedding day. It was very special to have both my mother Wendy and my father John, walk me down the aisle.”

Lucy and Andrew were married by Simone Cresp.

Lucy says “Our wedding enveloped everything we believe in, love and aspire to.  We were able to look around and see all our friends who we adore, our family who have always supported us, our grandparents who we aspire to be like and the children who are our future.”

Lucy says “It poured with horizontal rain, but even as my dress became wet with mud, we could not have been happier. I married the man I love, my best friend and my future.”

A classic, three tier wedding cake was created by House of Elegant Cakes.

Heather McQuade from Chair Covers Over All provided the rentals and helped the couple pulled their reception look together.

The speeches were incredibly special. Lucy remarks “My brother made the long flight from Sweden to be our MC, my sister and best friend was beside me all day. Andrew had his brothers, father and made a moving speech stating “Unfortunately my mother Lorraine never got the chance to meet Lucy, but every time I talked about her, she knew I was in love”.

The first dance was a giggly moment. Lucy recalls “After 6 weeks of wedding dance lessons at Aurthur Murray dance studio we thought we were very prepared. We had a perfectly choreographed dance to our favorite song ‘ you make it real – James Morrison’ sung by Raleigh and the Bombastics…we stepped onto the dance floor and that’s when the nerves kicked in…we only just made it through our first dance…..collapsing into fits of giggles at the end!”

Raleigh Williams and the Bombastics provided the festive music for the reception. Lucy remarks “Raleigh – the wedding singer – was a school friend. Many years ago I announced that she must sing at my wedding – thank god she did!! She was brilliant!”

Congratulations Lucy and Andrew! Thank you for sharing your wedding with us!
