Mel and Michael

I love the sweetness of today’s wedding- it’s in the tropical city of Townsville with the sweetest little touches of the bride and groom. The glowing Townsville light really set this one off for me.

Mel says “We met in a nightclub – Yes, it can happen!”

Photos today are by Insight Creative– I love the crisp, clean captures of this wedding, There’s no fuss, just the light and bright feeling of the wedding- so beautiful!

Mel created the stationery herself. “I used beige coloured textured cardboard with lace trim attached.  Kate (my twin sister) designed our seating board which was very cute – Michael and I as bobble heads traveling in planes and trains mapped out on our honeymoon. Our table names were each a city we were traveling to for our honeymoon – Rome, Florence, Cinque Terra, Paris, Formentera, Barcelona etc. It was complete with pictures of each place.”

Mel’s bridesmaids wore gowns from Third Millennium. The girls had their hair styled by Beck Jane West.  Mel says “Our amazing hairdresser! The girls decided on their own hairstyles and she pulled off exactly what we all had envisioned.” Makeup was by Boheme Beauty “Kim is stunning and so lovely.  The bridesmaids, my mum and my mother-in-law, we all LOVED our beautiful and natural make-up for the day (and no touch-ups necessary). ”

Mel wore a Nicolina gown. Mel says “Everything fell into place – my bridesmaids and I only had one day together in Brisbane to shop for their dresses and shoes and we managed to get everything organised and sourced by lunchtime.

Mel’s accessories were very special. “A pearl brooch that was my Grandma’s adorned my headpiece, with simple pearl earrings and bracelets. Also a white gold, sapphire and diamond dainty bracelet that my dad had made for my mum on their 1st wedding anniversary. My very talented twin sister (Kate – my Maid of Honour) made the gorgeous flowergirl dresses, my headpiece and veil.”

The bouquets were style by Black Rose Florist.

The bride was only a little late to the church. “My gorgeous mother and father-in-law were so busy helping out and organising visiting relatives that they ended up running late to the Church – we had to do an extra couple of laps to make sure the bride didn’t arrive before them!”

Mel and Michael were married at St Joseph’s Church, The Strand. Mel says “The Church was very intimate and the perfect place to seal our nuptials in front of our loved ones.” Mel walked down the aisle to “Better Together” by Jack Johnson.

Mel’s favourite memory encompassed the entire day. “The entire day; from waking to an amazing blue-skied day, our early morning coffee pit-stop, surprise flowers from my class (I’m a teacher),  being announced husband and wife, the speeches, the dancing, the next-day big breakfast.. the list goes on!”

Mel laughs as she remembers her favourite memories. “A dear friend of ours had her wedding dress torn accidentally by the groom on the way in to their reception and he’s never lived it down – and then Michael stood on my dress on the way in also and a whole section of stitching came undone on the skirt of my dress – luckily it wasn’t very noticeable!”

Sweet treats were a highlight of the reception. “We had a gorgeous lolly table which my mum and I enjoyed shopping for immensely! My gorgeous Nan and Aunty Sharon helped arranged and organise it for us.” The couple chose a chocolate mud cake from Cakes on Carthew.

Mel and Michael held their reception at the Mecure Inn Ballroom. Out Of The Blue Events assisted with designing the centre pieces and reception decorations. “Out Of The Blue Events helped put together our lovely centre pieces etc.  They were so enthusiastic and fun to plan with.”

The first dance was the wedding shuffle. Mel recalls, “Our unrehearsed shuffle and sway around the dance floor was very special, to  ‘It’s Your Love’ – Tim McGraw and Faith Hill.”

The dancing kept the night going. “EVERYONE got up and danced the night away – it was great to see everyone having a blast.  Michael and my families know each other well so it was wonderful to have everyone mingling and having a good time.

Not wanting the night to end – and it didn’t until long after the reception finished.  All the nonna’s, aunts, uncles and friends went back to a make-shift after-party and enjoyed many Italian biscuits and drinks – we kept getting in trouble for being too loud.  Eventually Michael and I did retire to a gorgeous rose-petaled room.”

Congratulations Mel and Michael! Thank you for sharing your wedding day with us today on Polka Dot Bride! Thank you also to Insight Creative for today’s images!
